The separated pockets are great! I purchased it to use as a gym bag as well since it has a separate spot for my shoes and another for my shower sandals and shampoo. However it is very high on my back and it pretty uncomfortable to wear as a backpack. I wouldn't want it on my back for a very long period of time. It works well for fitting BOTH my cross country Nordic and skate boots at the same time along with extra clothes in the center pocket.

This is a great design for a ski boot bag. The zippers for the boots zip all the way around so its easier to get them in and out of the bag. Also there is a separate compartment to put your lunch that has come in very handy. It's held up well and it gets a lot of use!

Other reviews on the shoulder straps suggesting that they were not comfortable may have some merit. I just use them for carrying my gear in and out of the condos and airports. They are plenty strong and comfortable enough for that. If you are planning on hiking for 30 minutes with your boots and gear, there are probably better bags designed for that.
