This a great compass and easy to use, if you know how to use this type compass. I did have a problem reading the numbers when sighting through the sights, but this was not the problem with the compass, it was because I wear bifocals and they did not work well with this compass. My son took it out for evaluation, and had no problem at all. As I said that problem I had was not a problem with the compass. It works quick and easy and it repeats well. I have seen more expensive ones that do not work as well.

I bought this compass (black version) to make some precision azimuth measurements, and am not disappointed. It is housed in a rugged metal case and can be precisely mounted to a standard camera tripod using its bottom-side bolt hole. Readings can be made by either direct view of the top dial, or by peering through a precision viewer near the bubble level. The construction quality is excellent.

There is a very similar compass (but about half the price) called the SE CC4580 MilitaryLensatic/Prismatic Sighting Compass with Pouch , which is identical, except that it is housed in a much lighter plastic case, which might be better for those who want lightweight for hiking.

I have both compasses, and prefer the metal case version version simply for its nice heavy case.

This compass is so easy to use and the sighting feature on it makes it very accurate. I am majoring in Forest Management, and I initially got it for my Forestland Mapping and Navigation class and for my Forest Mensuration class. (Both of which I got A's in thanks, by the way ;) ) but I still use it when I go hiking in my free time. I'd say the only downside to it is that it is pretty heavy compared to most compasses, but even that didn't really bother me too much. Personally, for the price I think it's worth carrying around a few extra ounces!

Do have to note here that there are at current 283 posted customer reviews on Amazon and the product overall was rated 4 1/2 stars on those 283 posted reviews. Me, I'm happy enough with the "Ueasy Store" and U-Easy Tech Limited and the Ueasy Professional Multifunction Military Army Metal Sighting Compass High Accuracy Waterproof Compass Green Color --- that I indeed did do more business with this seller and ordered two more ---- Do expect that they will hold up.. Compass seems to be sturdily built. I took off a star because the face of the dial is plastic and not glass. I worry that it will scratch and become unreadable over years of use.

Leveling bubble is easily seen and the needle floats freely. I checked the accuracy of mine against 2 different digital compasses on our phones. Spot on!

Yes it's a little heavy since it's steel construction. Yes aluminum would be lighter, but I'd bet the price starts to shoot up should you switch metals. I'm fine with the weight of this one. I'm sure it can take some good abuse.

Other than that this is a well built, sturdy, and very price-reasonable compass.
