Works very well. I only use it for brewing beer and it is long enough for my 5 gallon kettle. The display is easy to read and stays on long enough so you don't have to constantly keep turning it on.

It may be that I'm just spoiled by my Thermapen, but this is not "instant" read. It's faster than a regular thermometer, but takes some time to land on a temp (or at least stop going up and stick in a range).

I bought this to brew beer and use in the kitchen. I'm an all grain brewer so I need to accurately measure my temps. I've ruined a lot of "water resistant" thermometers brewing with them but this is doing great so far, where all of the others I've tried in the past would get moisture inside of them and act up or stop working. I just used it to brew a batch of cream ale and I had a pretty thin mash and I accidentally dropped this into the mash tun. It fell straight to the bottom (about 3ft) for a good 30 seconds but I was able to get it out and it was perfectly fine. The length of the probe (all jokes aside) really helps to measure my mash temps. I used the metal clip it came with to attach the thermometer to my kettle when I started to chill the wort and the steam didn't affect it at all.
The next day I used it to check the temp on smoked chicken and pork ribs and that worked great as well.

I'll have to continue to test this, but so far this is great for brewing all grain batches of beer. Meat thermometers work for a while, but then fail and getting bad temperatures messes up the whole mash! Long probe gets into the middle of my 15 gallon converted keg mashtun. Super quick reading display. The longevity will be assessed in the coming months. Update: another great batch. The max/min feature is great!

Excellent thermometer for the price. I use it for homebrewing so I need quick accurate reads with water proof features. It claims it can take dishwasher cycles, but I have not tested that. I have used it with boiling kettles and the steam has not yet had any negative effects on the thermometer. I verified the initial calibration with ice slurry and boiling temps and the readings were on point. I highly recommend this thermometer for anyone looking for a budget alternative to some of the pricier instant read thermometers.
