Excellent sound; stellar support

I purchased the Myers Feather pickup for my nylon string Cordoba classical guitar. I was persuaded by high customer ratings on the quality of the product and the level of support. I was particularly impressed that the CEO of the company was personally involved in resolving some of the issues customers had.

I received the Feather pickup and was initially disappointed at the sound level I was able to achieve on my small Roland cube and larger Fender Mustang 100 amp; I had to increase both the gain and volume to unreasonable levels just to get a sound that was louder than the guitar itself. I contacted the company and quickly got a reply to call the CEO, Greg Myers. He determined that problem was a difference in the impedance of the Feather pickup and the impedance of the amplifier inputs. Mr. Myers sent me, without charge, an impedance matching transformer that completely resolved my volume problem.

I would recommend that the setup instructions be amended to include a discussion of the need for the impedance matching transformer when connecting the Feather pickup to an amplifier designed for an electric guitar. This shortcoming, however, overshadows the level of support and the sound quality delivered by the pickup and warrants a five-star rating, in my opinion.

Tell ya' what, Im ordering another. I bought this for my steel National. It gives a good sound representation in three different placements on the instrument. Then I attached it to my harmonica holder, aimed it to the middle straight on and solved another issue with a Feather. Next : Furch Red Masters. Beautiful instrument. Has a L.R.Baggs Stage Pro Anthem pick up system (combines a piezo transducer and microphone ). I needed a more percussive clarity. I clipped my Feather to the sound hole , inside, aimed at the top and the issue was resolved.

Those are my experiences so far. Like I said, I'm getting another one.
Great company

I bought this to use with my D-hole gypsy jazz guitar and ran it through a Roland cube amp. Unfortunately I didn't know that they weren't very compatible together and the sound wasn't good. I felt it was unusable and decided to return the product. I got a call from the owner and president of the company right after I submitted the return request and he was very helpful! He explained to me what was going on and why it didn't work well with my particular amp. I won't go into detail, but he's a good man! He went the extra mile so that I would be satisfied with the product and the company.
Did exactly what i needed it to

I use a 1950s archtop acoustic with f-holes instead of one sound hole so the typical removable acoustic pickup that you mount inside the soundhole wasn't going to work for me. I got tired of trying to mic the guitar in a live setting and/or playing unplugged while trying to compete with other instruments. This little featherweight pickup is very discreet and easy to use. The sound is *extremely* clear. Unlike the removable pickups I've used before, this DOESN'T sound like you've electrified your acoustic; it just sounds like you've made the natural acoustic tone louder, which is great. There are a few different options for mounting or attaching it - I used the 'clip' to clip it onto one of the f-holes. So far I've just been using it straight into a PA or amp; I think it might sound even better going into a DI, which I plan to try next. I definitely recommend giving it a try.
Good for a uke that you don't want to modify

Bought this pickup because I wanted to be able to hook my vintage Martin 0 up to an amplifier WITHOUT having to make any physical modifications. In this regard, it fills the bill nicely. Note that the mic positioning makes a HUGE difference in the sound you will get out of this pickup. You'll most likely have to play around with it to find a position that provides good sound and doesn't interfere with your playing.

One warning. If you are used to the output level from a more common powered bridge pickup, the output from this pickup will be very soft by comparison. Paired with my low powered practice amp (Blackstar Fly), I could barely get any sound out of it. Once I hooked this up to a Fishman Loudbox Mini, I could achieve acceptable levels of volume.
