This thing is awesome. I have added GPS internally to my laptops in the past, and this unit is on par with any of them. It's essentially a UBlox 7 GPS with standard ceramic antenna. Plug it in and install the 500kb driver from Ublox; it creates a virtual com port and you can start using it for your NMEA needs. GPS reception is great, and I have not tried GLONASS. It will not do glonass and gps at the same time (glonass is the russian version of gps, both of which systems have their own satellites). I have read a few articles of people hacking the module inside to pull off a UART signal from 2 of the pins, but they are very tiny pins/pads and that is definitely an advanced type hack/mod. I might try to hack it for use with my arduino or flight controller in the future.
If you are , or even if you are into GPS integration for computers, arduino, RC, etc, then I would recommend this!
I would recommend it even if you

Works well and priced right

I bought this as per the recommendation of a friend who owns another trawler. He liked it and since my old one is cracked (too many times being dropped) I thought it was time to have a spare. This item works well, acquires satellites and matches other GPS I have aboard. It's a good buy at a reasonable price.
I bought it for use with OpenCPN. Incidentally, OpenCPN is a $10 android app that works as a chart-plotter. I love it.
I like that this is a thumb drive -- no bulky cord to get caught on things It's tidy and it works perfectly. Hat's off to the developer.

Perfect GPS device for a current-day laptop
Nathan Schimpf•August 30, 2016
I was looking for a replacement for the Microsoft GPS stick that came with my copy of Streets & Trips 2008; it had worked flawlessly for years through my travels, but once I upgraded to Windows 10...nothing. No driver updates. Nothing at all. It wouldn't read the device. And upgrading my computers to the Anniversary Update turned the Microsoft GPS device into a simple way to cause Blue Screens of Death the moment I plugged it in. 😅 So yeah, I had to get a GPS device that worked with my Windows 10 laptop.
This worked golden; thanks to everyone who suggested pre-downloading the drivers before this arrived. Plugged it in, took it outside, and immediately got 3-5 GPS satellites giving me my location in Windows Maps, which is a worthy successor to S&T for me. Works great with Google Earth too, along with MapPoint, despite the older maps. Can't complain about this one; a great device at an excellent price, and exactly what I needed.

Great addition to the Stratux.

Bought to use with Stratux. Plugged it in, fired up the Stratux and it took about 30 minutes to get a lock. After that initial lock it has been acquiring satellites in a minute or so and I see 5 meter accuracy in foreflight. Much nicer to use than the badelf sticking out of my iPad 2. Great addition to the Stratux.
Have a laptop with good location services and a Surface 3 with lousy location ...

Works as advertised. Have a laptop with good location services and a Surface 3 with lousy location services. Installed the driver and plugged the GPS/Glonass unit into the Surface 3 USP port. After a few seconds to acquire a signal, my Windows 10 map location was accurate within a couple of feet. After initially setting it up outside, it works throughout my house. haven't tried it in the car yet.
