Good for a month or two then broke.Consider another product.
Supamonkey•September 21, 2017
I found this as I was clearing my house for a move. I'd forgotten I had bought this because it broke after a month or two of use and I had tucked it away(where it remained hidden till I found it in a basket of old kitchen gadgets)
It has a good design. The pepper is easy to load, it can be ground and served easily and the metal looks nice. However it's design also has a major defect that makes the product not worth the purchase. The entire setup is being held together by a thin strip of plastic, that takes the brunt of the grinding force. As you can see in the photos, that the thin strip of plastic at the bottom is what's holding the grinder mechanism in place. As soon as it snaps, as it did in my case, the whole product becomes useless. I can understand normal wear and tear can do that to anything, but for it to happen so early and while it was only being used for home cooking,(Perhaps 3-4 times a week) it does not speak well for the quality of this product.
Be aware and avoid this.

For salt and for pepper, but . . .

I purchased 2 of these Sage grinders for use mostly at the table; one I needed for salt and one for pepper. On the positive side they are very nice-looking and they are relatively inexpensive, hence their attraction on amazon. In use the grinders do feel flimsy though that in itself is not enough to disqualify the product.
When used for salt the grinder works well with a grind range of very fine to fine. Its usable even though it lacks the solid feel of a Peugeot or Perfex pepper mill (both I have used and both are quite a bit more costly). The problem with this Sage grinder is when using it with pepper. The grinders are adjustable but the peppercorns never seem to be gripped well by the grinding mechanism. This results in an inconsistent grind. In other words when you want very finely-ground pepper you will get larger flakes mixed in with the smaller pepper bits. When you want larger rough-ground pepper not much comes out with each turn because the peppercorns are never quite grabbed well by the grinding mechanism. You get the idea.
If you like the looks of the Sage and you need a basic salt mill, give it a try; it can be OK enough. If you need a pepper mill and value a pepper grind that is consistent and dependably adjustable, I would say it might be best to look elsewhere. Thanks!

I had this grinder for about a year and a half until one of the stainless sheathes came unglued from the grinding mechanism rendering the grinder essentially useless. Even in the first instance these grinder have a few flaws. When you set them down, salt and pepper or whatever it is falls out the bottom making a mess wherever you place them. If you want to fill it, it is a little tricky because you fill it from the middle, not the top. You can hypothetically fill up the entire grinder, but it isn't easy to do because in effect you have to fill the two halves and then hope you can get them together before your salt, pepper, or whatever goes spilling out all over. It doesn't grind very fine either - nor does it grind with any obvious consistency that I can ascertain. I was hoping to find something that was quality and would last for a reasonable price. Well - the price is right - but after one and a half years the product is shot and I honestly and surprised with myself for having tolerated the ridiculous design flaws in the first instance.
Okay...for smart people. Comically flawed for the uninitiated.

My parents wanted a refillable pepper mill. I purchased this based on positive reviews and low price. My dad and sister both accidentally opened the mill and covered their food in peppercorns the first time they used it. My dad did it the next meal too, and yelled for my mom to "Throw it away, it's obviously dysfunctional. It's ruined two dinners now!".
In short, the place you twist this open to fill it is just above the clear section. The area you twist to grind is the area just below the clear section. If a person simply grabs the upper metal section and does any leftward twisting, they will get a plate full of unground peppercorns.
I've taken this to my own home now, and I'm conscious of where to twist and where not to. The materials are nice, the finish quality good, and the grinding performance great. They just really should have made it more intuitive to use by incorporating a way to lock the fill area.

Easy and smooth Grinder

I really liked this grinder. It worked really well for me, until my daughter dropped it. The plastic cracked and then the top silver part would not stay attached to the clear plastic part.
But it is a wonderful grinder. The grinding part was excellent. I had 2 cheap ones I picked up at Walmart, and the one was not even really a grinder but more of a slicer. It had a blade on it that came across the hole and "sliced" off chunks of pepper and salt. That didn't work well at all. I replaced it with another ones from Walmart that I looked at more carefully and was actually a grinder. But the grinding part was cheaply made and broke.
The ceramic part of this that did the grinding was excellent. It was a much better quality and the grinding action was easier to do and much more smooth.
I just wish my daughter had not dropped it, that's not the products fault though. I will likely order another one of these at some point.
