I use mine for dragon boat racing and can only evaluate it for that purpose. In the 14 months or so that I've been doing dragon boat, I've tried three or different types of pads, looking for both comfort and grip. This is the best I've found. It doesn't look like much, but it provides a surprise amount of relief from the hard wood bench (and I'm 6-2, 215). This should be common sense, but the grippy side faces down and the pad faces forward as pictured.
I will say that I'm the only paddler on my team who uses this type of pad. Everyone else has some version of a foam pad. I've used the foam pad with double lips from Burnwater that fits onto the seat securely. That's my second favorite, but I like this one better for longer workouts.
