I purchased this product as a replacement for my original model from the 80's. While the product is excellent (as was the original) with some useful improvements, the state of assembly and instructions for same are pathetic. First, when folded up, the unit is quite compact and thus should be shipped fully assembled as the original model was (even at a cost of $10 or $20 more if that is what it would take). The instructions are painfully concise with absolutely no elaboration and the diagrams are so tiny so as to be useless. It is nearly impossible to distinguish certain parts from the instructions - let alone picture how to put them together. In all, the instructions are reminiscent of those that used to come with Asian imports during the 60's, 70's, and 80's (if you're old enough to have had that pleasure).
Fortunately, there are some excellent You Tube videos out there on assembly or I would not have been able to get my unit together. So grab your tablet or phone, and you will have a great product with straightforward assembly but, if you have to rely solely on the instructions provided, you have my sympathy and best wishes.

THis works fairly well. I have trouble setting it up and folding it. For me it's just a little awkward. Also, finding the right combination and placement of panels can be a little frustrating. But once you're set up it's great.

I think this is a pretty good product and would recommend. It is sturdy and made well. I had an older version for many years that only had two pieces of wood on top and definitely anticipate this one will last for many years as well. I really haven't found much use for the 3 piece of wood (at least on my current project) so in all honesty if I had to purchase all over again I would probably just buy the smaller version but who knows maybe one day I will be glad but for now the 3rd piece just sits under my shop bench.

I love the flexibility & portability of this work bench. The only problem I have with it is that the wood they used for the top is too thin & flimsy. Also, there is not enough holes for the bench dogs to be useful. I would drill more, but the wood is already flimsy enough as it is. I will most likely be reinforcing or perhaps even replacing with a thicker hardwood. I purchased with the intention of using it for woodworking to hold materials while planing, etc... Probably be great for a mobile vise/ worktable solution, but as is, the top is too flimsy for my purposes.

This was the third B&D Workmate I have purchased, and each successive one has been less quality than the first (purchased in 1985). The assembly instructions are incomprehensible. Once assembled, the product functions poorly and is in no way intuitive. After I finished with the assembly, product functioned nominally. However when I folded it and later tried to use it, I absolutely could not get the the release lever to allow the device to open up and lock. The metal finishing is poor quality, and I cut my thumb on a metal spur on the release lever. What a shame...Black and Decker once produced quality products!
