Cool toy, my 4 and 7 year old love it (and they are girls lol)... durable, the front yellow part that carries stuff is plastic :-( not metal like other parts of the toy, but still cool, in fact it may be better that way because of less noise when they play with it and put rocks on it, or scratch it against the floor...
Tires are solid plastic, would be cool if they were rubber. Aside from that this toy can provide hours of entertainment, specially at a sandbox! or if you have small rocks in your driveway, or somewhere in your backyard!

I should have read the reviews first. I thought I was getting the classic toy from my childhood but I was duped. The only steel on this toy is the cab and the engine cover. Everything else is plastic. The frame, the handle, the scoop arms, and the scoop itself are all plastic. My grand kids will have this broken within a month or less
If I can only buy one, I'd get the dump truck. If you're looking for another vehicle to add, this would be on the short list.

Bad is that once you play with it, you find issues. First, when you push the loader, it doesn't go straight because it's 2 pieces and there is no way to lock it to go in 1 direction. Another issue is that the loader part is plastic and it's easy to pull it apart and just doesn't hold the weight. Still even with all the bad, kids love to play with it.

My wife and I bought this for our two year old grandson, Sol, and it went well with his classic dump truck. Both vehicles are large and sturdy enough to impress the heck out of any toddler. I imagine the others in the Tonka fleet also fit the bill.
One funny thing is he also got a set of miniature Tonka toys and the tiny, plastic front end loader looked like an elfin version of the big, metal model. Sol seemed to get a kick out of that and he put the little loader into the bed of the dump truck.

I bought this online for my 3 year old grandson. This is a horrid replica of the old Tonka fleet! It is mostly plastic, the bucket was disconnected when it came, plus the bucket is so flimsy it won't hold spit much less dirt! They changed how these toys are made, but little boys are still little boys, rough & tough on their toys. I wanted to send it back, but my son, who grew up with the original Tonka toys, said no, too much hassle. I will NOT be buying any more Tonka toys again until they go back to how they were!!!!
