Im not a regular chewing tobacco kind of guy. Every now and again, I'll crave it and it tends to get old after a few days. So for me, this isn't about beating an addiction or seeking out a substitute: rather, a way to stave off boredom.

The good -

The flavor is really rich and it will last a bit if you add more of a pinch to your pinch. Adding to that, I like the leftover taste of coffee, so that's not an issue to me - Id rather smell like coffee than chew any day. Its also packed with caffeine and for a coffee / preworkout addict, this is right in my wheelhouse. I can keep buzzed all day just by adding another pinch. Plus, nobody in my land of cubes can really cry that Im breaking some stupid tobacco free workplace policy.

AND you can eat it! Seriously - the downside of chewing tobacco is invariably it ends up being swallowed, albeit not much, but just enough to make you feel like crud. Swallow some or all of this? SO what?

Downsides - others have noted that the wad doesn't stay together after a bit. That does bite a bit, but there are solutions, like toothpicks and floss? duh - if you were chewing tobacco Id have hoped you kept some oral maintenance around.

Definitely recommend.

So I got this stuff as an alternative to the Snus I am currently using because I know its bad for me. I had currently tried another ouch tobacco replacement and didn't like that so i figured I should move on to the next thing. This got a lot of good reviews so I figured I could give it a shot. Firstly, I definitely should have explored the photos better because I had no idea when I received it that it would basically be a hockey puck in a tin. I opened up the first tin and was instantly confused because seeing the title of the item I thought it would be pouches. I was instantly disappointed when i saw that it wasn't but I figured I would still give it a shot because I really want to kick the Snus. So I tried to pull a pinch. This took about 5 minutes because I had to use my nails to pull a piece off then roll it between my fingers till I got a piece that would be shaped enough to approximate a pouch. Complaint number two, it left my fingers sticky and covered in grounds. I stuck it in my lower lip and let it sit. This led to the only positive thing, I actually really liked the taste. But as it sat in my lip it started to dissolve the honey leaving my mouth full of basically just coffee grounds. Worst of all it didn't even give me any sort of buzz or energy. I wish I could return this product but I don't know if I can with one of the cans missing a pinch.

I am admittedly a coffee junkie, so it was a relief to find the Cowboy Coffee Chew listed on a couple of "kick the habit" websites.

I will fully admit, I was surprised at the quality of the coffee flavor. Kudos to the makers.

The best part of the product, other than the flavor, is the cleanliness of use. You peel a chunk off, and because of the honey, it all sticks together. You can roll a wad and stick it in your craw without so much as a ground hitting the...well, you get it.

If you are a coffee fan trying to kick dipping, this is a excellent substitute. In my personal experience, it would not be enough to kick the habit completely, but it offers a very nice treat to substitute for dipping in the afternoon when I need a bit of a pick-me-up.

I am really impressed by this product and think I have found the product that can keep me off of regular tobacco for good. I have tried many products, jerky chew, mint chew, etc. Jerky chew was good but always to dry for me and wound up hurting my lip and gums more than regular dip. Mint chew, although I don't doubt it is natural, always wound up burning my gums, or at least having a high burn sensation and was almost always rock hard regardless of what I tried and also would wind up cutting up my lip and gums and was a serious pain.

At first I admit I wasn't too hot on the idea of coffee grounds. I love coffee, but the idea of coffee grounds didn't appeal to me especially being a military veteran and having direct experience of dipping actual coffee grounds when out on deployment. BAD EXPERIENCE!

Cowboy Coffee Chew is really nice though. It is not bitter black coffee nor is it extremely sweet Café au lait. They have managed to find what I would call a very happy medium that just taste d@mn good to be honest.

PRO: Great taste and although it does start hard it quickly warms and is easily pouched into the gum just like regular tobacco. For those of us who need the feeling of dip rather than the tobacco addiction this will be a great product for you. Price is honestly a pro and a con. I bought three cans initially to test the product and it cost me $20.00. On a repeat basis it would not be worth buying 3 cans for $20.00 when I can buy three cans of regular tobacco for slightly less. However on the pro side, once I tried I immediately decided to go online and buy more and I bought the 12 can pack for $50.00. That is twice the amount of regular tobacco for the same price!

CON: Coffee can be extremely hard cold. I live up north and so if you if you are in any cold environment and have left the can open to environmental temperature it will be damn near unusable. At normal room temperature though this is really not a concern I think and if you keep in your pocket your normal body heat will keep it warm and easily usable. It will be stickier and harder than normal tobacco regardless but hey I accept that. Another poster talked about the coffee grounds coming loose in your mouth as a major turnoff. Personally I question if this person has actually ever really dip'd or chewed because that is just a natural occurrence regardless. To my mind fine chew is harder to pack than long cut chew but it something any dipper should be used to. With the Coffee shew this is basically the same to me. Price as mentioned above can be expensive but once you try and decide you like, buy the 12 pack and you are getting a great deal.

After being a pack a day smoker for a little over a year i decided it was finally time to kick the habit. To handle to nicotine craving i switched over to dip (Copenhagen and Grizzly), I went through roughly three cans of dip before deciding to purchase this, so while i cant claim I have been doing dip for years like others, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this product is the best alternative to dip out there.

It should be noted that this is nothing like dip. To me this is a huge plus because when quitting you don't want to be reminded of that sensation.

When first opening the can you are greeted with the smell of coffee and the look of ground of coffee beans held together (probably by the honey). After packing a lip your taste buds are over run by the delicious coffee and sweetness of this product, similar to a black coffee with cream and sugar only the bitterness of the black coffee is still there. As you continue to chew on the pinch the flavor of sweetness lessens with time but the coffee flavor is always present and even comes out more as the sweetness decreases. I find a average size pinch usually lasts for a good 30 minuets.

Lots of reviews talk about the caffeine buzz you get from this product. Honestly I don't feel it. This might be because I have three cups of coffee every morning but even with using this product hours after my last cup ( even at night) I don't feel it. This product also wont give you that tingle you feel in your gums when using regular dip ( this is just with me, possibly because if all the caffeine i have on a day to day basis). In terms of spitting, you wont have to spit that often or even at all if you don't want too. Swallowing this juice just tastes like coffee and wont make you throw up or feel nausea no matter how much you swallow. After your done with your pinch you can just spit it out and all that's left over in your mouth are a few coffee grinds here and there nothing major.

No matter what reason your thinking of using this product for, quitting dip or anything else. This is a excellent product with consistent flavor all the way through and it eliminates my urges to go to the store and buy dip. For that this product gets five stars. While it may not be for every one this is the product i'll be using to quit tobacco use. I've tried other herbal dips and to me this is the best that suits me. Even after my urges are gone completely I will still use to product from time to time because i simply enjoy just what it is. Give this product a shot, you might just enjoy what you find.
