Light sensor is poor

The light sensor is recessed in a hole, so this light only turns off when the hole is pointing directly at a strong light source. Indoors, the light never turns off under normal lighting conditions.

I bought four of these 4 months ago. They are on every night in the flicker mode and are still going. The battery seems to last about two months. The color of the flame is not bright white, but more of a yellowish color like in the picture.

They're nice from a distance but the plastic candle doesn't have much realism to pass muster up close. Good for windows, probably not so great for a table display. Some melted wax effect on the sides and relocating the power/mode switch to the bottom would certainly help. Taking it a step further and figuring out how to put the sensor in the flame shaped bulb area would make them even better.

I misplaced the directions after throwing out the packaging and testing it at time received. It did come with directions and I glanced at it briefly on receipt but when I went to use this Thanksgiving I could not find them. After going through three sets of batteries and different battery positions I finally got the right orientation and then played with the switch. There are no markings on the case or in the battery compartment so if you don't want to be frustrated when you dig this out once a year keep those directions! I do find the light is a little yellower/warmer than I care for and would prefer something a little cooler but you can't change the LED. The sensor is up high enough that I don't have a problem with the window frame blocking it so there was no need to prop it up. I have alkaline batteries in it currently but am thinking that is a waste for such a low-draw LED and will probably put rechargeables in there now that I know the correct orientation. It did work when I first received it with rechargeables.

Great product. Easy to use. The flame is an orange color, which I didn't expect from an LED light. I like the option of flicker or steady light. Too many flickering in one room looks unattractive, so I made some at the back of the room steady. I love how they are daylight sensitive and turn on/off on their own. So far, so good (about two weeks).
