Well worth the wait

First, It is super rare I write review for a product. Part of the Amazon thing is that the only place you can find things is here and the other the millions of jobs it will eliminate in the US.
That being said I have worked over seas (Africa) and have seen first hand how international ordering and shipping has an amazing impact on tiny businesses in the middle of nowhere. This is a case for that.
First, the package came from Tialand without a single cracked mushroom. They smell and taste simply wonderful.
They do have to come through US Homeland Security customs. So the shipping took a month. If you need them for Friday's dinner party you can pay an arm and a leg at the local gourmet store. However, for those of us who do that stock thing, I would absolutely advise ordering them.
While Mushroom House is a remote family business in Thailand the quality was much better (and a lot less) than I have seen in the US stores, Not an extra twig or piece of dirt in the bag. You can tell when people love their mushrooms. Mushroom House Dried Mushrooms, Shiitake, 4-6 Cm, 1 Pound
Do not be concerned about the shipping time when it arrives it's Chrismas, covered in tape from Homeland security, whom by the way did not open the bag.
Amazon should do more of this. If we know it takes time and the price value is good we can wait and make a dent in the small places of the world the giant box stores ignore. Just stock up and save yourself last minute gas trips to the store.
So I give both the product and the company five stars. You did good.
And Amazon... While you are spending your billions on robots to unemploy the US, how about investing in small cottage farmers around the world?
Stay encouraged,

Repulsive. Extremely questionable and unfamiliar taste.

The high rating of this product led me to believe that buying was not much of a risk. Regardless of the other rating which displayed issues with infestation, the product I received's problem was not a question of infestation but of absolutely disgusting taste. I regularly eat shiitake mushrooms, and after attempting to prep and cook these mushrooms in a few different ways, I (along with another person) was barely able to stomach a single nibble for the surprisingly chemical and lingering aftertaste was overwhelmingly repulsive. Frankly, we felt sick to our stomaches and regretful at the mere swallowing of a nibble.
Perfect for Powder

I put these in my food processor and ground them until they were powder. They are excellent for giving beef dishes depth. I can't stand the texture of mushrooms but I do enjoy the flavor. These are a perfect way to give my dishes that hint of flavor without the texture.
Good and versatile product

Flavorful, soak them up in broth then sauté or cook as you wish. I was warned about the other kind that are with stems, these are nicely tender once reconstituted. Because they are dried they will have two chances of absorbing flavors like the flavor sponges mushrooms usually are, and they taste 'mushroom' on their own without being overpowering. I am going to try reconstituting, stuffing and baking them soon and will update the review after I try that. They do make a good crumble to add dry into a good broth then thicken the broth after a few minutes for a killer mushroom gravy.
Worms!!

I've purchased this product a few times but the last shipment was really lacking in quality. I would say about 10% of the mushrooms were riddled with larva, which is extremely off putting if you don't notice them until after you add them in your meal. I will never buy from this company again because obviously these mushrooms aren't grow in a clean or sterile environment to control this kind of thing. It is very gross to find dried up dead larva in your food!
