There are extremely few toys on the market that is suitable for a small infant (less than 3 months old). I purchased this for my baby when she was 3 weeks. She loved the piano and took to it right away. At 3 weeks, she was a bit too small to reach for the toys, but grew into it nicely as she got bigger. Around 2.5 months @ 13lbs & 23.5 inches, she's now able to reach all the toys and is stomping on the piano.
The mat is thin, if using on the ground, I typically lay an additional blanket on top so it's not so cold and hard for the baby. I also use with a small pillow.
