Does the hard work. Takes a bit of setup time to attach an active vacuum, a jig to secure the work and an extension to keep from sniping the far end, but once everything was set, it saved a whole lot of time and gave fine results. As others have said, it's heavy, but well designed and gives a nice width plane.

I was a little cautious spending this much money on a power planer but after using it for the first time a few days ago to clean up some very rough cut, crooked, twisted, and warped chain sawn lumber, I can say that it works great! Due to the longer base and wider cutting channel, it levels out valleys, high spots, and irregularities extremely quickly and accurately. I use to do this with a 3.5 inch power planer but this unit works considerably better(faster) and leaves a smoother finish (probably due to the powerful motor and 3 blade design) on wide surfaces that are too large for a thickness planer.
