This borescope is a great product for any DIY person or someone just starting out in a mechanical workplace. The quality of the camera is great compared to the initial cost and the additional accessories that come included make this a versatile device. I've used this borescope to rebuild an engine and it saved a lot of time from having to take parts off.
Quality
The image on this camera is very clear, which is important when trying to diagnose a problem. The view angle from the camera also allows you to see a wider area so you don't have to manipulate the camera as much. Even though it has a wide angle, the camera portion of the borescope is kind of long which makes it hard to move around tighter bends. It's also good to know that this product has a waterproof rating of IP67, so you don't need to worry if it gets wet. The 16-foot-long cord also allows the camera to reach many places, and since the cord is semi-rigid, it holds its shape so it can be used vertically up.
Lighting
Lighting is a factor that should be considered, and this borescope has several LED's at the tip off the camera. The LED's are adjustable, so you can control the amount of light output. To adjust the light, there is a roller switch which allows for fine tuning the amount of light. This is important so there is not any glare from too much light which effects the quality of the image. It also helps when there is no ambient light to still be able to look into sealed objects through a small hole or inspection cover.
Connectivity
This borescope has a USB/micro USB plug to connect to computers and phones. When connecting to computers, it works right away every time after installing a program to run the camera first. If a computer is not close by, a phone can be used by downloading an app to allow the camera to function on the device. With this method, sometimes it takes some patience to get the camera connected to the device in order to use it.
Accessories
The camera also comes with a mirror, hook, and magnet which expands the amount of uses the borescope can be used for. These can be used to grab things that have fallen into spots where it would not be possible to grab with your hand. The mirror will allow you to see around corners where you can't get the camera, but this still has some limitations. These accessories really increase the value of this product.
Overall this is a good borescope to buy. The cost reflects the quality well, and the amount of time you can save by seeing the problem first without taking things apart makes it worth the purchase. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an entry level borescope, and especially for anyone who works on engines.

Before the product arrived, I received an email from the manufacturer with setup info and support contact info. That was impressive.

The snake camera was longer than expected -- a plus. It was incredibly easy to use on a Mac. I plugged it in, opened PhotoBooth (included on Macs), clicked the "Camera" pull-down" menu then chose the snake camera instead of my MacBook's internal camera; immediately, video appeared from the camera.

I used temporary blue painter's tape to attach the camera snake to a broom handle and viewed the floor behind our refrigerator to make sure its safety brackets were correctly lined up after putting the fridge back after working on it. The LEDs surrounding the camera worked well to illuminate brackets underneath the back of the fridge.

The snake camera is so easy to use, I'll list it with all-time favorite great simple computer products I've used over the last 30 years: CCleaner for Windows; Clipmenu for Macs; Quicken in the 1990s; the 1990s Palm Pilot; the current iPhone; this snake camera.

For 29 bucks, it seems like everyone should own this (or another quality inexpensive snake camera) for working on houses, apartments and gadgets. Working on cars, boats and other machinery could be useful, but I'd wrap the snake in painter's tape so the snake doesn't get greasy from the engine and transmission, then I'd clean the camera after. I may use inside some tube amplifiers to see if any capacitor is swollen. I have a heavy boot with something annoying inside the toe area, so I'll take a look with the camera. (It's probably best if hypochondriacs stay away from this product, since it'd be too easy to check otherwise-hidden areas of their bodies.)

Of course, if after a year I have bad experiences with this product, I'll lower my rating. That seems unlikely so far because of its simplicity and the longevity of LEDs in genera.

I might give these as gifts, especially for house warmings. I wouldn't be surprised if Amish made an exception just to use this.

The instructions are confusing and different than what I had to do, and clearly were not written by a native English speaker with a strong command of English grammar. Consequently, I had to contact Depstech to find out how to get the camera working on my computer and phone. I was pleasantly surprised by a very prompt response and two followup email messages. The information provided did indeed enable me to get the camera working on both my Windows laptop and my LG G3 (Android). I'm impressed by how well the device works, and that even though the best focus very short range, objects a few feet away are still clear.

Install notes (worked for me on my Window 7 PC): go to Desptech.com; click Support [there is no submenu for "Support"]; scroll down to expose and click Downloads and Drivers tab; hover over the image with the label DEPSTECH® ENDOSCOPE NTC 85S; click the Manual/Driver link that appears [note that for me the Instruction Manual link does nothing]; this will download a zip file to your Downloads folder; open that file and copy the Smart Camera2.2.1.exe file to some location on your computer (I put it in Program Files, but it doesn't seem to matter where you put it); in that location, right-click the file and choose Create Shortcut; cut the shortcut that appears (right-click, Cut), and then paste it on your desktop; you can now double-click the desktop shortcut to run the program; note that you'll be prompted if you want to allow the program to make changes on your computer (click Yes).

Note that for me, the camera was set on 3 frames per second, which makes it look terribly slow. It's actually quite decent if you change that setting. To do so, after opening the program, click the Settings tab on the bottom, then change the Video Format setting (second drop-down on the left) to a higher number of frames per second (fps). Note that if you're going to record a video, this will produce a MUCH larger file.

To use the camera on my LG G3, I downloaded the "Depstech Camera" app from Google Play Store. I connected the camera to my phone with the 6" USB mini adapter, opened the app, and it worked great.

It provided images, after a fashion. I needed to check for blockage inside a pipe and I thought this would do the job. Unfortunately, the cable is just stiff enough to prevent the tip from following bends in the pipe, so I could not see anything past the bend, and I could not really manipulate it enough to get a view of the pipe. I do believe it would be adequate if the pipe is straight. It definitely is watertight. Sorry, I do not feel it met my specific needs.

I would like to clarify that I needed to look inside a pipe with multiple sharp bends close to each other, which would be a challenge for any borescope. You should not take this review to mean the product does not work at all. In a straight pipe it does work fine.

Update:
I would like to add a couple of notes to my review. First off, it is my fault that I missed the significance of the semi-rigid classification in the name. The seller was up front. They have contacted me and explained the cable characteristics, and pointed me at the right model for my needs.

Second, they have offered me a full refund for my purchase, without my asking for it. I give them full five stars for customer service. Unfortunately, Amazon's rating system does not let me rate the seller here directly. But I am very happy with their level of service.

This is my first Endoscope camera and I was skeptical about how well it would work. Surprisingly started up right away on both my Android phone and my Window's 10 Tablet. I could not find the app in the Google play store as instructed with the quick-launch instructions, but another free app worked very well. My Window's 10 tablet also started right up without using a 3rd party app. Just one click on the camera app and a few seconds to load the camera and I could see the picture.

I've used it now for just a couple of hours to see where some wires were within a wall and in the ceiling and it seems to work well and the lights can be adjusted to vary their intensity. I have not used the attachments so I cannot comment on how well they work.

There are two primary reasons why I have only given this product 4 stars:
1) There is no accelerometer built-into the camera head, so when you're fishing the camera in a wall or along a floor you have no way of leveling the camera picture and maintaining orientation. Admittedly for the price this may be a lot to ask, but it would certainly be a nice feature. I found it somewhat disorienting at times as the the lens rotates or twists around corners to tell if I was pointed up or down as a result.
2) There is no provision for auto-focusing that I can see from the camera. I don't know if this is a function of the apps I'm using or if it just can't do that. It would be nice if the camera could adjust its field of view even a little so that you could vary the focal length from a few inches (standard) to a few feet.

Otherwise, very easy to use, clear picture (you're not going to make 4k video with it, but it's pretty good), and coils up and stores well.
