It was an easy install, and if you read other reviews, some people complained about the O-ring that actually holds the tack inside the housing. It was too big and too tight. I just took it off and replaced it with a rubber band and it fits nice and snug but not so tight that it's gonna break anything. I did not wire in the back light, I did test it, and it is extremely bright, too bright that you don't want it Shining in your face at night, without having some sort of dimming going on. That's why I only gave it four stars. It runs through the rpm range smoothly.
It is really bright, but good for the price.

The picture shows a switch to select 4-6-8 cylinders. What's actually there is a button labeled 'Set'. I spent 20 minutes trying different combinations of long and short button presses and I was not a happy camper. My truck does not idle at 1600 RPM and I couldn't make it read anything else. Thanks goodness I found the review from Chuck. Press and hold 'Set' until the needle jumps to 4 then click again and again to 5, 6,7 and finally 8. Then leave it alone until it drops back to 0. Works a treat now. So 5 stars for the tach but 2 for the non-existent setting instructions

This is a great tach for being budget friendly. The instructions aren't quite clear on how to set the amount of cylinders. Press and hold the set button then tap until the needle is on the correct cylinder count. Wiring was simple with the use of a coil.

Installed on a Fords Ranger 4.0L. Program according to other reviews (ignition on, engine off, once number of cylinders selected do not press any more - it will cancel out of set mode on its own.
NOTE: on my engine I had to select 1 cylinder for it to indicate accurately. Maybe my input source was not ordinary.
