I like to never got it open when we 1st got it. it's NOT a simple push with the finger and it opens. You have to give it a pretty good smack with the palm of your hand. Luckily if you have it open you can hold it closed with the key while you're doing business. It's not quite what we thought we were getting as far as ease of opening with the push release. But it's a cash box. heavy and obviously not easy to get into. haha.
