We needed a shade for a small deck and this one works perfectly. Our dogs go in and out through a door on this porch and their paw pads would get hot. This provides enough shade to prevent that. We had to pull the shade tight to fit, even though we measured several times. It worked out. The bungee cords were not big enough for our beams so we used sturdy hooks from Lowes. Enough light gets through for the plants I keep on the deck.

I would recommend this to everyone. We have a small deck with afternoon sun. We built a simple PVC pipe frame attached under our soffit to the house and deck and draped this on top. What a difference it makes versus a patio umbrella. First of all we feel that we can go outside and use the entire space. There are no worries any more about leaving the dog outside for an hour on really hot days because this cuts the sun's intensity down by about 85-90% (appears to). Used to be my umbrella (that was in a glass table) would blow itself and our table over quite frequently. That problem also gone and no more winding an umbrella up and down. The umbrella also harbours bugs after awhile, this does not! I even am able to put my parakeet outside all summer now! The rain just goes through and there is no mildew/mold happening with it.

We have had a hard time finding a replacement canopy for our 9x9 retractable pergola cover. In desperation I ordered this canopy in an 8 x 12 to cover the top and overhang to the west. I figured for $40 I couldn't go wrong. It's perfect!!! The bungee cords are great (if you've ever used a pony tail holder then you r got this!) but we also reinforced with zip ties. Love it so much I'm ordering another as a side panel for the southwest.
