4/5 Its more like wearing a cloth shoe with laces
Sudarshan✓ Verified Purchase•February 18, 2018
Just got mine delivered and put it to use immediately!
Ease of use: 4/5
Its more like wearing a cloth shoe with laces! Not like a sock you pull over. It takes around 3 to 4 min to get it wrapped around ankle.
Support: 4/5
While resist the lateral movements, front and back movements are not frozen like a cast would do. Material is strong and non elastic so it might be little uncomfortable compared to compression bands.
Fit: 5/5
Laces make it easy to fit your leg as long as you order the right size. I wear US size 11 shoe and I ordered medium. This fits very well. I can wear shoe on top on this. Just to give it a try, applies it directly on foot. But better if you put some sock first.
Overall: 4&1/2 stars

I Was Able to Train Jiu-Jitsu on a Blown Out Ankle
Aaron Camacho✓ Verified Purchase•August 8, 2017
I recently sprained my ankle during Brazilian jiu-jitsu training. My friend had secured a toehold, twisting my foot inward and my toes downward until a loud pop noise was heard. I could walk fine afterward but I knew that I probably had torn a tendon. An hour later and the inflammation and pain finally kicked in reaffirming what I had thought. I took a week off from training to heal but even after that time a downward flexion of my ankle would still cause extreme pain as the tendons had not fully healed yet.
I researched the best option to help constrain my foot and to prevent it from flexing outward, a brace with laces and a vertical stirrup support was highly reccomended by friends who had similar injuries. Given those variables this brace was one of the cheapest and best reviewed options on Amazon so I went ahead and ordered the brace.
So far I am very pleased with the ankle support. As expected the lacing allows for a tight constraint of the ankle joint while the stirrup supports help to keep the toes from moving into a painful downward position. I do have to slide the stirrup supports slightly forward to help constrict the front portion of my foot as when it's too far back (along the heel) it offers little constraint of the foot. But with the stirrups shifted forward the toes are generally protected from being bumped downward or at off ankles.
During training the support did well. I still had to refrain from leg locks as my foot could still be manipulated beyond the range of the injured tendon. Though the support does what it's supposed to do, it's still just fabric and it can be stretched with enough force. Which is fine, as I don't think they created this thing for fighting. With responsible and measured training I could easily keep my injured foot out of harms way. My ground rules were simple, I could not engage in ankle locks are commit to any sort of movement where I would have to drive off of the ball of my injured foot. The second condition was more challenging and took some adaptive learning to understand how I could and could not move without injuring myself. Thankfully this ankle stabilizer was able to give me the appropriate feedback to feel when my foot was about to move out of range. At no point was I able to move my foot out of position without first feeling the pressure and tension of the brace trying to prevent my movement.
The only problem I had with the brace was how slippery the bottom of the brace was. The stirrup straps are made of a slick synthetic material that makes them slip around. In my shoe the brace would move slightly from side to side and on the mat, I could not plant the flat of my foot without it wanting to slide out. Basically, I had to train and fight without planting or driving off of my injured foot because I just didn't have confidence that I could plant it effectively onto the mat. It's a slight gripe that most people won't have to deal with.

Update: wore low cut socks with this ankle brace on for my first day back at work. After a couple hours, my skin got so irritated and sooo Itchy!! Thus.....word of advice, make sure to wear longer socks with this! ðŸ'‚
I had an open ankle dislocation and tore my ligaments; I had to be in a splint for 2 weeks, cast for 6 weeks (non-weight bearing), now I'm in a walking boot (12 days so far), trying to walk again. I have 5 days left before I return to work, but my work doesn't allow for me to wear a walking boot. Bought this and tried it out; my foot doesn't fit in my vans with the brace on, but I feel that it provides a lot of stability to my ankle, almost as much stability as my boot. I have to stand for 8-12 hours in a day for work...So i'm hoping this will help get me through the day! I'm size 6.5 women's, regular width, 11.5" ankle circumference, bought a size small, but I feel like there's excess material? Idk if that's how it's supposed to be, but it works. Not sure if a size XS would fit better though.

I'm a believer...I am now drinking the koolaid but do watch for the best price. More at end of my review.

Well made compared to similar items others sell that look a lot like this brand. This comes in two styles one with side stablizers or stays and this one without. I bought this one without because my foot problem which has lead to an ankle problem has as much to dow itht foot then it does the ankle itself. I don't roll my ankles as much as they are in a lot of pain due to foot surgery gone wrong in 2010. That led to the otuside arch failing and numbness and pain from ankle to end of foot on that side that has never improved only worsened over the years. This brace definitely HELPS !!! so why not 5 stars as in according to Amazon LOVE IT. I hate it...just having to put the dang thing on is annoying. LOL. I find taking it off even more annoying. You pretty much have to unlace the whole thing to get it off your foot and then relace it the next day to put it on. Heaven forbid my (where wer those itty little violinists when you need them playing here...) take it off and on more than once a day for say swimming/showers/changing clothes or any number of good reasons to have to remove it and then put it back on. I say slightly with tongue in cheek because it does help. For some reason as soon as I began using it the day it arrived my whole leg has been in some kind of adjustmental pain and ache routine. Usually within an hour of walking about with it on that subsides. I bought the two in white because I hate black shoes in summer when the sun heats up the foot something awful. BUT white is going to be difficult to keep stain free so I thought I'd probably order a black one this fall as winter sets in and long pants are in fashion again...yeah BLACK would be fine..did I mention our three long haired shedding cats who's hair is attrracted to everything BLACK but especially to velcro...yeah. So the only real reasons I dock a star is the padded tongue is a tad cheap and I can not get the wrinkles out of the heal area along where you pull up the ribbon work. These creases and the lowest eyelets and extra layers of finishing fabric can be difficult ot keep flattened in your shoes to prevent pain due to this area digging in. I'm use to tightening my shoes to provide extra support to the ankle so in time I hope this will work itself out but for now I have to take a lot of care to get the shoes on over it. I use a shoe horn...one of the super long ones seems to work best. I do have to adjust it some days as it suggests might be the case by pulling up the side velcro supports. I also discovered I had to remove a layer of support I was used to using with this as the combination of support hose then normal but tight fitting sock than usual (a smart wool sock) along with yet another open toe support or arch band either one this last two had to go. It does of course widen your shoe compared to the other shoe but when your aim is RELIEF...it's a small compromise...or you can always where on both feet thinking of the good foot as in sympathy and showing support. It's a solid 4 stars maybe worthy of 5 but Amazon needs to come up with a new definition of what 5 stars means..yet now and again I LOVE something:))) May this help all you who seek it's help. BUT watch the price it jumps up and down by as much as doubling over night to only find it yet again for the under 20 I paid for it and for some odd ball reason the white and black choices on the same page may vary in price on any given day too. Not knowing if it would help I didn't want to spend 80 bucks on a pair of these...one and a spare for washing...after seeing just one day the price I'd put it in at 21 each had jumped to 39 and two days later I found it at less than the first day. Today it's 27 and change????? So for those who do care about their purse....and you have a few days to spend watching for the best deal I suspect you might be rewarded. I wouldn't have fussed with the 2 or 3 dollar variations but 100% was a bit over the top. (This was the same item as I tracked it only via my placed in order page and back and forth with some looking around. I think that is when I discovered they come with and without stays and I didn't need the additional stays I felt. You may however as no doubt many of the different folks seeking this product has almost as many different needs and reasons.
Difficult to Use & Very Uncomfortable & No Support!

I followed the directions for measurement exactly, yet this was too big! It also took me over 20 minutes to put this on. Perhaps if you had someone help you, it would be easier & quicker to put on IF it was the correct size, too. There was a lot of overlap & I could not get this to fit smoothly against my foot & ankle. Trying to lace it up tightly was also difficult to do alone. If you want something supportive for your ankle, this is not it! It also rubs on the bottom of your foot, mid-arch.
