This is one of the nicer horn drinking vessels that I've ordered. Unlike a lot of the horn cups and mugs I own, this one doesn't smell bad out of the box. It looks nice and has a good heft, and holds a good amount of cold ale. Perfect for Ren Faire, re-enactment, your D&D sessions, Game of Thrones premieres and finales, or any other medieval festivities.

Very cool product; the tankard is extremely high quality with a very nice "old Nordic" vibe. and it shipped very quickly. I've used it for a couple of days and it works very well, imparting no flavors to the beverage. Just a couple of very minor nits: I fully understand the acrylic base, but I'd appreciate it if the "AleHorn" branding was a bit more subtle (I realize that it IS on the bottom of the tankard and you need to distinguish your product in the market, but something like Runic characters might be more in keeping with the theme), Also; I received a very nice e-mail from the seller with maintenance tips for the horn tankard after purchase...it would be helpful if a print version of these tips were included with the tankard for those cases where it is purchased as a gift.

I ordered two tankards and I had a problem with one of them. It is my understanding that the problem can occur because the product is made of natural horn. To my surprise and delight, the supplier of the AleHorn Tankards I bought for Christmas presents responded to my needs and went well above anything I expected. They above all showed themselves to be men of honor! It is so rare to find individuals with such character when ordering from the web. If you are like me, you have ordered items and hoped for the best, not sure if the product will come close to your expectations. But when you are dealing with men like these men, you have nothing to fear. They will be there to make sure the outcome will surpass your expectations.

Nothing I'm about to comment about is enough to make want to return the item, but I feel they need to be mentioned.
My tankard looked pretty much identical to the one in the review video. This made me worry that perhaps the product was a fake and was made of plastic. Compounding that fear, the smell that everyone complains about really wasn't much. If you have kids and they've ever left some plastic riding toys outside in the rain, you know what the smell is like. Fortunately, the flaws are what assured me the tankard was authentic. The finish/sealant was not particurly well done. It was spotty and left some parts rough. This did show the in the layers of the horn. All this said my only real complaint is the handle. It's extremely thin and brittle at the bend. One easy shake with and with an empty mug is like to break it.

The interior of the mug has a small portion that is coming away from the rest of the horn... And it smells bad, I think it's the clear coat I am smelling but it stinks...
***UPDATE*** The Alehorn Team contacted me regarding the horn becoming splintered and had sent a new one out. The new one arrived, without any odor and no cracks. THANK YOU GUYS!!!
