A solid 9 for those need to store wide knives
Vodil•October 11, 2017
We have a lot of knives and several knife blocks. This is my favorite knife block. It is sturdy and heavy enough not to slide around.
The best part of this knife block for me is that there are a lot of 2+ inch wide slots. Many of our knives are wider than the typical slots in knife blocks.
As far as wide slots go, this block has one has eight 2 inch slots and one 3 inch slot. The 3" slot is not wide enough for a cleaver, but my curved 10" chef's knife fits well. I
The eight small slots are for steak knives. I don't store kitchen knives with serving knives and would have preferred a wide slot for a cleaver.
This block nominally stores 20 knives, but for me the key number is 9 wide knives. That is the best scoring knife block I have. Would have been a 10 if it had an additional cleaver slot.

I am so freaking happy I finally have ALL of my knives out

I am so freaking happy I finally have ALL of my knives out, even the cleaver! I read some extremely detailed (shall we say, neurotic?) reviews that evaluate every square inch like they are launching a space ship from NASA. It's not that complicated. It's an awesome huge bamboo knife block for like twenty bucks! I read a complaint that said the slots are thick and large (they are) and that make their knives wobble and appear "sloppy." I don't know what kind of anorexic knives they have, but all of my varied sizes and brands fit wonderfully without wobbling or being weird. Buy it, you will love it.
Great buy for the money

I was really pleasantly surprised by this item.
We have a lot of knives, and I recently bought a 10 inch Bob Kramer by Zwilling so I needed a larger knife block that would also house the knives we had stored away in the drawer. This is made in a quality fashion and looks good on the counter, and is not ridiculously oversized like many of the larger blocks I was looking at, as we live in an apartment and have limited counter space.
The slots in the "main" part of the block are on the larger side, so we were able to fit two 5" utility knives in a single slot. The 10" chef's fit fine, as did our two other 8" chef's knives.
My only real criticism is the lack of a spot for a hone. Other than that, this was a great buy.

Good solid quality block.

I got this to replace my Henckels block because I got some extra knifes and a cleaver. Overall it's a very nice block, it's very sturdy and well made.
The only problem I have with it is that the the lower two holes on either side of the shears hole are a bit too wide. These are where you'd put a pairing knife or whatever, and I have a small pairing knife and a small serrated edge knife and they are both too small for those holes and wind up flopping around a bit.
I guess that if you had all larger knifes this would actually be a feature for you, but I assume that most people out there have at least one small paring knife, so while this does work, it's not ideal. Plus, trying to put a bigger knife in those slots would make it really cramped with the shears anyway.
I may try filling in some of the slot with wood putty to make it fit better..
But overall very happy with it and the cleaver slot is great.

Hunting camps, college housing, and bachelor pads...if your knives are mismatched, regardless of size, THIS IS YOUR BLOCK!!

Knife block is extremely sturdy and just as advertised. Bought this for my hunting camp, but it would look just as good at my house. Not cheap looking at all. The slots are great and just as described so far as measurements go. This was one of the few knife blocks that gave measurements. As it is a hunting camp, my knives are a hodge-podge mix and I have a few longer 10" and 9" knives and this block swallowed them up with zero issues.
If your knives are slightly longer than the advertised depths in the picture, no worries because the bottom of the slot is open and that gives another 1/4 inch or so.
I have a 10" chef knife not pictured that goes in that top spot.
The only negative thing is that the knife handles are pretty close together if they are wide...not an issue enough to take a star away, though
