Extremely messy and didn't work.
SoCal Mom✓ Verified Purchase•January 17, 2018
Fine powder gets everywhere! It comes exploding out of the brush. There is no way to get a bit in the brush, then lock the brush out from the powder so you can apply what is in the brush. It will absolutely color your scalp the color of the powder. They provide you with a card to cover your part so you don't get it on the skin?! If it's this bad, it should be in explained in the description. I tried unscrewing the brush from the powder to avoid the mess of application. They provide you with instructions for this method. This worked better than straight from bottle in to brush but is still messy and takes a ton of powder to have any results. As far as root touch up goes, well, it colored it but the gray just looks like powdery gray and my natural hair color just looks like a powdery version of it. I will say this color would have nicely blended in to my ashy light blonde color had it actually worked to cover or at least kind of camouflage my root area. Nope. I feel like it's using a loose powder version of dry shampoo. You get that same dull look, weighted down, kind of dirty clumpy root feel a lot of dry shampoos have going on. I am returning this. Bummed! I really wanted to stop my search for a temporary fix for my gray and natural color root grow out between salon visits.
Great root powder, great texture. Just be sure to get the right color.

**Update**
Updating my original review to 5 stars based on the excellent follow up from the seller. Seller created a color especially for my hair to have a better color match. It is perfect. She the photo of before and after included. Great blend and still allows me to wash it out as I am growing out my gray hair.
**Original review**
I really appreciate thorough reviews, so here is mine about Rootflage. I've used this product about 10 days before posting my review so I could share as much as possible. First let me share how I am using this product. I am growing out my natural gray hair. This transition process takes a long time, so I wanted to use the product to help blend the new growth (gray) with my current blonde hair. I wanted something temporary that I can easily wash out as my gray grows out.
Application
The product applies very easily. I tried two of the three recommended methods - directly from the container with the brush applicator attached, and then dipping the brush applicator into the product and applying. I actually preferred dipping the brush because I felt I had more control over how much product was applied to the hair and exactly where. I think using the dip method also helps reduce issues with product getting on the scalp, which gives a strange appearance when it does happen. Product on scalp - not good. The seller provides recommendations to help reduce product on scalp, which I tried - and I did find that after practicing with the product I got better at avoiding the scalp. Sometimes it just happens, and when it does, it is difficult to remove, but think this is one of those things that you get better at as you continue to use the product.
Coverage
I found that the name "rootflage" really is true with respect to coverage- it camouflaged, and it did so very well. The product did not totally cover my gray, but rather did an excellent job giving it a blended look. I honestly don't think anyone would notice that I had used a root powder. In fact, no one every mentioned it in 10 days of wear.
Wear
The first time I applied rootflage I did not wash my hair for two days after. It stayed in place with no issues. On day three, it really looked just like it did from the first day of application. I did change my hairstyle a couple of times during that time, so I did touch ups with rootflage in spots that did not show from a previous hair style, but that was to be expected. The wear totally exceeded expectations. Also, I did not notice any color transfer to my pillow. I was using the dark blonde/light brown color. I also found that the texture of the product in my hair did not bother me. It gave so extra volume and in my opinion, it feels better than most dry shampoos. If you are used to using a dry shampoo, I don't think you'll have any issues with the "feel" of rootflage.
Color Matching / Customer Service
Color matching is where I struggled some with this product. I bought the dark blonde/light brown shade. Based on the color swatches provided, this was the closest match for my blonde. And it was close - however it was too warm for my blonde and gives off a somewhat brassy appearance compared to my more ashy blonde.
I remembered that the seller sent me an email after I placed my order that said, "We carry over 20 colors of Rootflage, so we should have the perfect shade for you! If the color you ordered is not a match, let us know. We feel confident that we can find the perfect shade of Rootflage for you."
I reached out to the seller by way of email and mentioned this concern. The seller was very nice and requested a photo of my hair, which I provided. They responded via email with the following-
"I think the cool blonde will be too light for your hair. If the light brown is too warm you can try a couple things:
1. Try Golden Brown, it is less warm than light brown. I actually think it would work well, plus you can use it to fill in your eyebrows.
2. Or you can buy a Blue Monday and mix some of it in with the light brown to cool it down."
I really appreciated the advice on color. However, this resolution left me to take another chance and purchase another one (or two) products (at $20 each). I would have appreciated if the seller would have offered to send me a sample of the new recommended colors or even a discount code to purchase another color. In hindsight, I wish I would have contacted the seller before I purchased the product and asked for their recommendations on color upfront. This is a more expensive root powder than most on the market, so you want to get it right the first time or at least know there is some kind of guarantee in place to get the right color without having to buy more products at added expense.
Overall, I really like this root powder. It blends into the hair well, it has a good texture, and you get better at applying with a little practice. As an aside, I also purchased the Purple Haze shade just for fun. It was just as easy to apply and did not stain my gray and washed out with no issues, so if you are looking for some color that is temporary, it's a great option.

Best Root Cover up on the Market!
AJ✓ Verified Purchase•March 10, 2017
This root touch up is absolutely PERFECT. I have tried others and this product is hands down "MY new product" for colored hair discreet root touch up! The color blends / covers my roots perfectly without looking artificial, messy, being overbearing, or 'off'.I like that the brush dispensers are well thought out (there is a large and a little brush, the large allows the product directly dispensed from the container). I like that that large brush can be gathered up by a plastic pushup applicator so the bristles hold held together when you retrieve and close the cap. This prevents the bristles from bending. If you are not sure which color to pick, go with the less bright /subtle option as applied the product is on the brighter side than it appears when you see it in a larger volume (full bottle).
Amazing seller

This color itself didn't match my shade of red. However the seller worked tirelessly to create a custom shade that matches my hair color (think Moira from AHS). This one on one support is so valuable in my eyes it's a 5 stars automatically. Product can be a bit messy, but as an avid dry shampoo user trying to maintain my shade of red, this doesn't dull the hair at all, and hopefully will save me from the consistent relying for vibrancy and consistency from roots.
Don't touch hair after applied!
Susan✓ Verified Purchase•November 23, 2016
This covered my hair good. You can't see my grey or brown hair after I applied. Does exactly what it says. However it's so messy. Everytime I adjust my hair my hand turns copper. My grey hair is in the front so I tuck my hair a lot behind my ears or out of they way. I need clean hands at work so it's embarrassing if I move my hair without thinking. Would like a root touch up that dries to hair not a power that sit there and makes a mess.
