They aren't the right lengths!!!

They are fine when you are just using them to count very small amounts. My daughter was trying to see how many 8's are in 56, however. When you line up 7 eights next to 5 tens and a six, the row of eights ends up being an entire 1 longer!!! This makes them essentially useless for teaching division or multiplication. I thought they would be easier to use, as my children have always been frustrated trying to keep long numbers in a row, but we will go back to our old school cuisinaires which were, at least, the correct lengths.
