OK - got it working but took 2 days and I'm still not sure how durable it will be. Directions are poor. If you keep getting the gear number going up while you shift down and down while you shift up just switch your yellow and green wire connections. I switching the sensors thinking that was the problem, but it was the wires. If you fashion a straight metal holder for the sensors that is about the width of the sensors you might be able to drill a hole through one end of it and bolt it on the bike's foot rest. Have it stick up, and you'll be able to slant it just right. Zip tie the sensors on and you might be able to slide the sensors up and down until everything is set to work. I also got some circular magnets about the size of a nickel but about 1/4" thick and zip tied them to the gear shift lever. Get the circular magnets with a hole through the middle. You can stack as many as you need so it is close to the sensors and that should help. Did this on an Indian Scout. Let me know if you need pictures. If it wasn't such a cheap buy I would have sent it back for a refund.
