How to not have the cans fall between the racks

It works well. I've been able to put 12oz cans in it as well as 8oz ones.
To not have the cans fall between the racks:
I read that sometimes the cans can "jump the track" when you load it. What I do is to load the cans on the bottom rack first. Put the first can on the bottom rack then push it backwards with the next can (like the display units with springs at the grocery store or pharmacy). Put about 4 or 5 in there, and then load the rest from the top. I've never had one fall through.
This item is great, and the price was great, too.

I ordered 4 of these to organize our outside fridge. We use it mainly to keep our drinks cold as we do not have an ice maker. I was putting the whole 12 pack box in which is awesome...until you run out. So now I can store 48 cans on a single shelf AND know when I need to restock. Two of the dispensers were perfect on arrival. The other two were slightly bent. Not a big deal and still completely usable. I just used a little bit of force to separate the top rails and the cans roll down now just fine. I will end up zip tying them together so the don't move when loading. Overall perfect for my needs.

Overall this works as advertised, but there a few limitations. The gravity feed sometimes needs a nudge, but otherwise functions fine. The thing that keeps this from being 5 stars for me is that while loading, the cans can turn perpendicular and then you have to try and get the cans in the correct way - It's a minor inconvenience that just requires a little attention while loading. Also the stop at the front on one of the units I purchased was a little out of shaped (not square to the rest of the dispenser). It functions fine enough, just a slight defect. Regardless it's still better than fighting the cardboard boxes that the cans come in.
The best part of the product I discovered while just testing the feed function. Simply explained the coldest cans will unsurprisingly be in the back and if you pull next few cans and place them in the return feed several times, the coldest cans become easily accessible. Nothing special, but it is just a nice little perk to have.

I was concerned about buying this item after reading poor reviews on many like it, but fortunately, mine works great. I did bend the back end back together slightly per a number of recommendations, however I have not had any issues with the cans not rolling or turning sideways. Cans inserted at the top front roll easily to the bottom front. It holds a full 12-pack and fits in my standard refrigerator shelf. My dispenser arrived undamaged.
