I purchased these lanterns first to use when we stayed in a tiny cabin off the grid along the shore of Lake Superior in Michigan's UP. While we are used to dark nights of living in the country, it is even darker there at night (being far from any city!), & we prepared by adding these to our camping lighting that we took with us.
These lights are nice & bright! They are easy to carry, as we needed something more than a flashlight to illuminate our way to the outhouse at night. The surrounding area was well lit during those walks. The handle makes it easy to carry, but don't count on a "cushy" handle, as these snug in along the side of the lantern for compact storage. They could be used to hang, too, but it would hang crooked with the handle design.
Going forward, these will be handy & portable personal lighting for camping as well as to keep handy during power outages.
I cannot yet comment on battery life, but LED should allow for longer life, I hope! It does load up with a bunch of them (they aren't handy to pull out to comment on how many, sorry!), but I believe they are just AA sized, so there are no unusual sizes to go search for.
To turn on the light, you just slide it up to expose the light, & it automatically turns on. Simply collapse the light back into the base to turn off & store. I kept the sturdy box these lights came in for safe storage, which provides further protection.
So far, we are very pleased with these lights! OH! It was great that these came as a pair, too!

I live in rural New Hampshire and experience power outages at an alarming rate. A little wind, a squirrel running too fast, or no reason at all and I am in the dark with no running water, no heat, no internet for many days at a time. I can boil bottled water on a propane stove to shave and wash up"¦but my bathroom is so totally dark. Enter this fantastic camping lantern! I was a bit concerned by the product description that it might be too small"¦. not at all. Just a perfect size and very adequate light source to be very portable as well as allowing me to drag a sharp razor across my face in safety. Here's to hoping we have a winter with no power issues"¦. but in case we do, I feel better prepared with these lanterns. Thanks very much.

Bought this as a gift for a friend and I tried it out when it arrived. It is compact, easy to lift and turn the lantern on internally.
The light was bright and will be great for any power outage or road or camping trip. I uses 3 AA batteries. All you need to do when you purchase this is unscrew the bottom and pull out the piece of clear plastic that is blocking the battery connection, then screw the bottom back on and you will have plenty of light when you raise the top part of the lantern by holding the black top. The handles are handy for carrying or hanging. Very useful.

Hi quality, lights up the area well. We got the two-pack, one for home and one for camping. Makes the old flashlight a relic! I will probably get two more for our vehicles. They fold down very compact, can carry in almost anything. They are smaller than they appear in the picture which is a good thing. Etekcity backs their products with phone, email and live chat support and a warranty. You can register with the company and receive and extra year of warranty. It doesn't appear that the LED's are replaceable, but that could fall under warranty or just buy some more...very inexpensive! Very impressed with the company and build quality.

This 2 pack of lanterns makes an excellent gift for any outdoorsman! I am impressed with the quality of these. They feel so durable. The outer casing of the lanterns is metal, very nice. These arrived with a full set of batteries already installed in each lantern! It's thise little details that make such a difference. They arrive ready to use!
To turn on the lantern just take them metal handles, pull them out/up, andpull upward. The lantern opens and the light turns on automatically. I love that the brightness of the lantern can light up an entire room. To turn the light off just close the lantern. These would be excellent during a power outage or for use outside cooking or even working on the car. You can't go wrong buying these!
