This mask has only one flaw, but for me it is negligible.

I really enjoy this mask (for the most part, anyway.)

Putting the mask on-- it stays very cold where I store it. So it is very refreshing going on the face. It's a bit gelatinous, but that just makes it easier to build up a bit to your liking. It doesn't smooth on evenly, but again, that isn't really a bit deal; it just means you'll be left waiting for small patches to dry while the rest of your face is dried. You can always smooth the thicker parts down as it dries a bit.

People keep commenting on the smell, but I get no smell from the product at all while I'm using it. Maybe I'm just not paying enough attention, but I don't really think the smell is worth mentioning at all because it's so faint if it's even there after application.

It comes off SUPER easy, and while I do wish it had a bit of grit to it for exfoliation, my skin feels amazing afterward. Short term my skin feels a lot more firm, but that wears off within the half hour of it coming off. Lasting, my skin feels worlds smoother and it takes down the redness in face, especially in my cheeks.

I have noticed one downfall in the product:
While it's drying it does drive me slightly mad with the itching. BUT, it doesn't irritate my skin at all once it's wiped off-- no red irritated spots, no burning. It's just the feeling of when you have a scab that is drying out and healing. Irritating, almost not worth it... until you wash it off and realize "ahh, this is why I put up with that." haha But plenty of people don't have any itching, so it's a game of chance as to if you will have any itching feelings during the drying.

The first photo is obviously with the product on. I let it get a bit gloppier than usual, so it took the darker spots significantly longer to dry than the parts that are already dried (light grey is the dried parts, dark grey are the wet parts). In the after photo, you can see that my skin has little to no redness aside from my oh so lovely breakouts. Normally, my cheeks and the lower corners of my nose have plenty of redness. I didn't get close enough to the corner of my nose this time to make a difference, so you can just use that as a reference if you can see the bit of redness to that little area. By the following week, however, the redness is back, so hopefully that will improve the more I use this product.

I have only used the product twice now, so I will be sure to update if I notice it improving my breakouts.
Initially skeptical but ate my words

I have good things to say about this product. I was initially unconvinced. The first time I used it I was underwhelmed. This is probably because when I buy a product with excellent reviews I develop unrealistic expectations of what the product will achieve the first time I use it (i.e., I irrationally expect a miracle product). Anyways, I began using the mud once a week as directed. I leave the product on for 45 minutes to an hour. The first few times I noticed that my skin felt cleaner and less oily but wasn't convinced it was helping with my acne. In retrospect, I believe it was. After using it once a week for several weeks I went without it for three weeks. I was moving and I forgot it at my old apartment. I broke out which, obviously, I did not appreciate. After about three weeks I went back to my old apartment to visit my former roommates and found it in the bathroom cabinet. So I used it.

It was only after this gap in using the product that I really noticed how effective it is. My skin was in good condition when I first started using it so it makes sense that I didn't get a great idea of whether it would address my acne. Given that I broke out within three weeks of not using it I think it was responsible for keeping my acne at bay. (Not being able to use it obviously wasn't the only thing that made me break out. During the move I wasn't eating very healthy, wasn't getting enough sleep etc., so there were other causes for the breakout.) But what REALLY convinced me was that after three weeks of non-use, it faded my acne scars visibly in one usage. And I mean considerably, not just a little bit. To the point that when I looked in the mirror I was truly shocked by the difference.

I'm very glad that I bought and tried this product. I can foresee it being part of my skincare routine for a long time. The mud itself has a pleasant, mild scent and a wonderful texture when you smooth it onto your skin. The only thing that I don't love is the slimy feeling when you're washing it off. Other people say they can feel the skin cells sloughing off. Perhaps that's where the slimy feeling comes from. Regardless of the reason, who cares, right? The sliminess is a minor inconvenience compared to the results. I would definitely recommend buying at least one jar and giving it a try, mostly because the price is reasonable.
Exceptional performance, off-putting scent

I have been using clay masks for the last several months to absorb oil and shrink pores. The best I've tried are great for the oily T-zone, but are a bit much for the drier areas on my cheeks and jawline. On a whim, I tried searching for a mud mask that has a good concentration of clay, but with some skin beneficial emollients. Enter Pure Body Naturals Dead Sea Mud Mask. I found this product on an Amazon search, and the ingredients looked fabulous (see below), so I ordered it based on the Amazon reviews. I love shea butter to moisturize my skin, and was eager to try a less drying mud mask as part of my weekly skin care regimen.

I'll start with the good parts. The mask is very laden with mud, which is awesome. To have a high concentration of clay and other good-for-your-skin ingredients in an affordable product is not common, so the relative value is quite good. It has a smooth texture that is easy to spread without pulling at skin. It is possible to achieve a thin yet substantial layer of mud, which is perfect for facials. The mask is easier to remove than the oily skin clay masks I've used, probably because it doesn't dry out as much over the 10-20 minutes I wear it. It leaves my cheek area feeling clean but not stripped. To date, it has not irritated my skin with weekly use.

The not so good parts are very minimal. First, it is a jar package. The product doesn't have antioxidants that will go bad, but the idea of dipping into a jar over the time I own and use this one jar (probably 6-8 months) isn't appealing. I tried a wooden spatula, but I found it much easier to gauge how much I need by using clean hands. Still, not ideal. The second mark against this mud mask is that it does have a strong woody scent. There is no fragrance listed in the ingredients, but I think the hickory bark extract must be very fragrant. It would be perfect for a spa setting, but personally I prefer less strong-smelling stuff on my face.

Overall, I found this mask to be exceptional performance-wise and for its affordability, but the scent is very off-putting, so I probably won't order again.

Ingredients: Deionized water, Dead Sea mud, kaolin, shea butter, sunflower oil, aloe vera juice, vegetable glycerin, jojoba oil, hickory bark extract, calendula oil, xanthan gum.
After Just One Application, My Skin Looks Healthier!

Lately I've been wanting to try new treatments for my hair and skin so they look healthier. I came upon the Dead Sea Mud Mask and it was just what I was looking for at a reasonable price so I decided to purchase it.

When it arrived, I'll admit I was a bit surprised because the jar seemed smaller than I expected but I am also not very good at picturing the size of something unless I have a visual so, for that reason, I've included a picture of the mud mask jar next to a 20 ounce Diet Coke bottle for anyone who prefers visuals as well. The mud mask comes in an 8.8 fluid ounce/ 250 gram plastic jar and is made from minerals taken from the Dead Sea in Israel. The purpose of this mud mask is to remove dead skin cells and toxins, as well as absorb oils and aid in clearing up acne (taken from the mud mask container). The full ingredient list is: deionized water, Dead Sea mud, kaolin, shea butter, sunflower oil, aloe vera juice, vegetable glycerin, jojoba oil, hickory bark extract, calendula oil, and xanthan gum. The bottom of the jar contains the manufacturing date of 2/29/2016 and an expiration date of 2/28/2018.

It's fairly easy to use this mud mask too. You apply a thin layer of it to clean skin and leave it on for 10-15 minutes then use warm water in circular motions to remove it. It took several minutes to remove the mask but that didn't seem to be a huge deal to me. The directions say to not use it more than once a week.

When I first applied the mud mask, I freaked out my in-laws because the mask is dark like mud and I'm pretty fair-skinned so they just weren't expecting it. It was actually pretty funny! After I removed it, my mother-in-law immediately noticed that my skin looked healthier and I could tell as well. Even just after one application, this mud mask removed some of the dead skin cells and toxins and rather than looking slightly splotchy (since everything shows up on people who have fair skin), my skin looks clear and much healthier! I don't currently have acne with the exception of the occasional blemish so I really can't comment on that part of it.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this product and I will continue to purchase it as long as it works well for me for awhile. At first, I thought that the price was a little too much for the size of the container but, since you only use this mask once a week, it really should last for many months so that makes it worth it to me. If you are looking for a mask to make your skin healthier, especially with summer coming, I'd consider purchasing this one. If anything happens to change my opinion of this product, I will update my review. I'm very happy with this mud mask and recommend it to anyone!
I just receieved my item....hopefully it works

As of right now, I am for the first time ever applying any sort of facial mask especially this brand. I'll let you know that I have never done this before nor do I have knowledge of anything such as mud masks. I've been looking everywhere for something that can help me minimize my pores, get rid of my acne, perhaps clear some dark spots I have on my face due to sun exposure, and of course those yucky blackheads. I was skeptical about purchasing this item since I saw good reviews as well as bad (those with allergic reaction).

Now I have super sensitive skin and that's the main reason why I never apply any sort of lotion or product on my face. Not to mention, my skin is a combination of oily and dry skin. Yes very weird. A little more information, I'm 26 years old and like I said, I've never used any facial product due to my oversensitive dry/oily skin.

So, for the first time ever, I'm going to do a review and update on this product. As I'm typing, I have applied a layer of this mud mask (not sure if I did it right) on my face. I've waited now for 10-15 mins as instructed and I'll keep updating my review post. It's 3:23 am right now so yes, I'll keep posting my results to show any changes. I hope this works out for me and I hope my review helps you ladies. So for now I rated it a 3 stars because I am barely going to use it and I don't have results yet to review.

So wish me luck and hope this product does work like it claims to do!

Update as of April 20, 2016 - 4:02 am

I have removed the mask and I can't believe it! My skin is as smooth as a baby's bottom! It hasn't been this smooth since the longest time! I was terribly afraid of applying this due to some reviews and pictures I saw of customers getting a rash or allergic reaction.....I can't believe my eyes! Despise the few acne I have and spots, my skin feels very smooth!

I forgot to mentioned something I felt when I applied it. The reason I was afraid of applying it to my face was because I felt this tingly sensation. Not the good type of tingly sensation more like this tiny irritation sensation. I was this close to removing the mask immediately off my face but for some strange reason it stopped. Now that the 10-15 minutes have passed and I easily removed it with Luke warm water, I felt my skin so soft!

I will continue to use this mask weekly and I'll keep posting my results. As of right now, I'm definitely surprise with how smooth it left my skin. So for fast results on smoothness I give this product a 5/5 due to my experience. But overall I give this product a 4/5 since I still haven't gotten the results I want. Like I said, I'll be updating you guys on this product and perhaps even give it an overall score of 5/5.
