It's ok, helps the ringing overtones on my 8 string bass when loaded with zingy rounds, pretty much does what it is supposed to but not really a substitute for good technique and will most definitely not work for that Motown mute sound, unless maybe you stuff it under the bridge I guess. For its intended purpose though it is spot on.

The ultimate clean up tool in the studio and live. Your tapping and picking will sound way cleaner and tighter and your chugs and stops will be much more percise. I play an array of post hardcore, metalcore, djent, jazz, rock and pop and this thing is the godsend for making your playing just that much better. Obviously, it won't turn you into Jason Richardson or Tosin Abasi overnight, but it'll give you the sprinkles on your already delciously frosted and yummy cupcake.

Overall summation: it does work. If you put it on the nut it doesn't do much dampening but if you sit it on the first fret at the top, it does exceptionally well. My acoustic is very loud and this kills all the reverb and not needed noices from other strings, but it does need to be at least in some amount of space of the 1st fret to be really useful.

I like how it reduces unwanted noise from my bass, although there is a small reduction to both volume and tone whilst in use, but that's negligible. I haven't tried it while playing slap style bass yet, I'll bet it really works well there, but probably not as well with the pop style. Mainly because you need the string you perform pop notes on to ring out, and this item will reduce that to a certain degree. But overall it works as intended. So I'm pleased with this product.
