It's a good concept and I do use it very carefully, but it doesn't fit in my door latch loop very snugly at all and actually swung forward as I was trying to get out the first time I used it. Since I am using it to balance as I slide down from a truck seat to the ground I wrapped the peg that goes into the door latch loop in quite a bit of tape to try to make it fill in more of the space. I am also careful not to put any pressure outward as I slide down or if I am using it to balance as I am pushing up into the truck seat from the side step. I imagine if you are using this to pull upward and out of a car that you are level or lower than the door latch loop this rests in that the movement of this handle would not be as much of an issue. Just FYI for safety. I kept it and use it carefully. It does give more purchase than just trying to rest my palm on the door latch loop alone.
No real use for the flashlight or seat belt cutter, but I suppose bells and whistles help for marketing value.

I bought this as a gift for my aged, aged grandmother. It hooks into the door of most cars (as the instructions indicate) and allows for easier entrance and exit from vehicles. This assumes, of course, that the person in question is able to grip things and that their arms offer some type of assistance in moving themselves. So anyone who can neither grip or rely on his or her arms would only find this an additional nuisance. Never had cause to try and cut a seat belt with it, but it seems like it would be possible. Also did not get to try and break any glass with it. Perhaps my life is not exciting enough for a "three-in-one" tool. Regardless, it does what I bought it for.

People made fun of me for commenting on a similar product on social media, but let them laugh. I am very happy with my new Carcane! It is well made. It works wonderful in assisting me in and out of my car. And it is compact enough to fit in the side pocket of my door on my car, keeping it handy whenever the need for it arises. I suffer from RA, and walk with a cane. Getting out of my car was becoming quite difficult for my 5' 1" self. The Carcane not only assist me in getting out of my car, it also gives me something to hang onto to steady myself while I get my "land legs" back. (When I first stand it takes a couple of seconds to steady my legs before I feel comfortable letting them support my weight. I call that getting my "land legs" back.) A friend was concerned it might mar my door jamb, but I haven't noticed any marks yet. If it does eventually, it will be worth it. It will be a small price to pay for the ability to easily stand from my car and the reassurance of something to hold onto while I steady myself. I have ended up on my keester in a parking lot a couple of times because my knee have out on me. Not any more! If you have trouble getting out of your car, I highly recommend the Carcane! It also comes with a seatbelt cutter, and a sharp point to break a car window. I hope I never have to use these two features! It also has a flashlight! That will definitely come in handy, I'm sure. I'm just genuinely pleased with my purchase. Let the ribbing begin...I can take it. I know I bought a product that looks like an "as seen on TV" ad, but I'm not one bit sorry!

Wow, mine is not at all what those black canes are. I got the red one as seen in the picture. Mine is quite heavy and solid. I weigh 160 pounds and have put considerable weight on mine getting in and out of my pick-up after going through pancreatic cancer. I was so weak that once I could walk, getting in and out of my truck was one the hardest things to do and this made it possible! Mine has all the features: flashlight, seat-belt cutter and a window breaker. Looks as though the black one is obviously an inferior knock off. If you open your package and see the product is black, return it immediately. Hopefully Amazon has already recognized this problem and is rejecting these items. Mine is a excellent product, that deserve 5 stars, I trust it completely.

The first person to invent this with a lockable swivel base will be a multi-millionaire. That's all this needs is a lockable swivel base. It actually gets in the way when you enter/exit a vehicle because it's actually in the way. With a swivel base (haven't seen one for sale yet), you can actually pivot this while it's secured in the door jam. Don't know why anyone hasn't thought of this before. Like other countries do: Build a better product and they will buy them. Let me know when you invent, patent and sell them on Amazon. My bet is more than 5 million will be sold in the first 2-3 years alone - believe me.
