Fractured ankle? Buy this now!
Amazon Customer✓ Verified PurchaseFebruary 4, 2018
After rolling my ankle I have a bad sprain and a fractured bone.I was given a brace at the VA ER but it was too big and just hurt when it was on. So hello Google and it led me to Aircast. I read everything they had to say about their walker cast models and soon found the Aircast Airwalker elite. So I ordered it and in 2 days it was at my door. I could not imagine what this could do to help me walk. It's plastic with some straps and foam liners, it also has air chambers. I'm a 250 lb 6ft 2in guy, in my mind it would not help. I put it on, walked around the house and thought ok and went back to the couch. The swelling was crazy, so I had little hopes this thing would help. So the next day I went to work, it hurt to walk, sit or move. I played with the air chambers on and off all day. Well it had been on about 12 hrs, I took it off and there was hardly any swelling. It actually felt better, I was impressed. So if you fracture your ankle it's going to hurt, so try this Aircast. I spent 130 dollars and some change and it was well worth it. I walk alot so I purchased the elite model. I wear a size 12 shoe and my toes are about a 1/2 inch from the end. It works great for me!
Comfortable Air adjustability

I ordered another boot on Amazon the black one with the blue inflate button. Received it and there was no air function. I inquired the seller and they stated I didn't order an air boot.Rather sternly at that. I went over the description again and it clearly stated pump up to secure fit. Contacted Amazon and they agreed with me that it was described as an air boot. Requested return. Seller then apologized but I'd started the return process. Shopped again found this Gray boot AIR! Ordered the short boot received in 2 Days It's just what I needed. Comfortable adjustable air The Top Velcro strap could be a little longer it seems rather short compared to the lower strap. Seems to stay firm and inflated , no leaks or air loss until you touch the deflate button. I'm happy with this purchase.
If you have to wear one, this is it!

The doc put me in a Breg boot which was so clunky and full of Velcro straps that liked to stick to each other. I thought I'd go mad. So I found this one and it is lighter with only 3 straps that have yet to stick to each other.

It's pretty comfy and gives good support. Must admit that I cheat around the house and don't use the front plastic shield, but I do outside.

I will say that I ordered a Small, as I wear a woman's 7 or 7.5 and it was too small. So I sent it back and got a Medium which is much better.

I definitely recommend this boot! You're already frustrated enough having to wear a boot at all, so make it easy on yourself.
*UPDATE*
I am now at the 6 week mark with my broken leg (5 weeks in this boot) and I can say I have been really pleased with it. One thing to consider, though, if it's REALLY cold where you live, there are open areas around the top of the foot where cold can get in.
Needs work

Needs work. Although you can move the upper straps, the foot strap can be difficult to fasten if on opposite foot from dominant hand (left foot/right-handed). In addition in 2 weeks of wearing, the inflator wheel got turned 180 and can't turn it back. It also is tight on the heel area (rubs on the Achilles) and the foot piece jams into front of ankle. As with all these, the top strap also seems to slide down with then puts a bit of play in the cast when walking...corrected by adding a Velcro tie/strap through holes where it goes around. On the plus side, not as high as older models, so it is much much more improved for walking - no need to get lifts for other shoe to prevent hip/back strain. Although the built-in inflator is much more convenient than the old blue football, it doesn't seem to work as well. Might be a good thing cast is tighter as result. Large is barely long enough for size 13. Size 14 will have toes hang out...kinda like a plaster cast.
Best of the bunch

I am somewhat of an Aircast expert. Over the past 10 months I have worn three different models for different breaks. (Genetic disease is a b*stard!) This model was not the most comfortable but it was the one that provided the best support and reduced swelling the most. My bone healed faster and "better" in this boot than in the others.

Other models worn:
Aircast FP
Aircast SP

I always buy an Aircast when I break a bone because they are so much better than the awful black walking boots the doctor provides!
