MEH. Works in some situations.

I really wanted to love this. I used this on a backpacking trip. It worked, but it was a pain in the rear. I clipped it to the outside of the pack so the sun could charge it as we hiked. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the flashlight had been on (the light had flipped to the on position) all day and hadn't charged. I was sure that I had just been really stupid and left it on. There was bunches of annoying hand cranking that night (and not the best light), the next day I was extra careful to make sure that the light was off when I clipped it to my pack. Low and behold, I checked it during our lunch break to find it had moved into the on position AGAIN. :( Turns out that this continued to happen. This just didn't work for me how I needed it to. Thankfully you can crank charge it too or it would have been miserable. If you have the ability to lay this out in the sun during the day and come back to it, like in a home or camping type setting, I think this would be fine. If you intend to use it backpacking or in motion- I'm not sure its worth it. I'll keep trying to find away to make this work for me but I'll also have to continue to carry a backup.

I keep this in my glove compartment as an emergency flash light. I ran out of gas in the middle of the night the other day and pulled it out. It was fairly dim but after cranking it for a few minutes it brightened up significantly.
It's more of a crank flashlight.

The solar only worked for a week. Thank goodness we have Energizer solar and crank flashlights.
