Buyer Beware! Not an Apple Product. Doesn't work!
RC08November 5, 2016
This is not an authentic Apple product! I thought since the price is the thing as the real deal, I was safer buying this. But it has never worked properly with my 2015 MacBook Pro, and it finally stopped working alltogether. I took it into the Apple store, and guess what? It's a fake. They ran the serial no through their system and it doesn't exist.
So, it may work fine with other computers, but not with Macs.
The seller shouldn't be marketing it as an authentic Apple product, and it shouldn't cost the same as one.

Buyer Beware! Luckily, Amazon has great customer service, as it's been about 6 months since I bought it. They're honoring my return, but honestly you should save yourself the trouble.
COUNTERFEIT APPLE PRODUCT...SCAM!
Caryn StahlschmidtOctober 20, 2016
This seller is a SCAMMER...COUNTERFEIT APPLE PRODUCT! I noticed as soon as I opened the box that there were two casting flaws in the aluminum case. I thought "That's strange, Apple wouldn't put that out". But I didn't think anything else of it. Then the drive wouldn't fully load a CD on to my computer. Then it would totally lock up Finder. Then it stopped working at all and I couldn't get the disc out. It stopped showing up as a drive on my MAC. I took it the Apple store to have them test it...wouldn't show up as a drive on their machine either. They looked up the serial number and it wasn't in their database (hmmm). So I bought a new one at the Apple store. Started comparing...I found at least 20 subtle differences in the packaging and hardware that clearly indicate this was a FAKE! The company has even changed their name since then. THANKS FOR RIPPING ME OFF!
BUYER BEWARE

Note: I had no problem with the seller. The shipping was quick and the packaging was perfect. However, this USB Super Drive is no good. I had it for about six weeks and it did fine adding CDs to my iTunes. Once I tried burning a DVD-R, it was all over. It would not recognize blank DVDs. I attempted to use iSkysoft DVD Creator and it still would not recognize the blank DVDs. It also would not recognize DVDs I ordered from Southtree (home videotapes converted to DVD). I spent over an hour (including time on hold) with Apple. The Apple Tech eventually decided "the 3rd party app (iSkysoft) was responsible for the error." This is not true. I ordered a $27 LG optical drive and EVERYTHING works fine. I was past the 30 day window to return it with Amazon and Apple will not do a warranty repair since they claim it to be a 3rd party problem. I'm $75 in the hole with this thing but my $27 LG optical drive works just fine.
Was sent a counterfeit!!

Don't waste your money. Tried it for the first time to watch a dvd and it wouldn't recognize the drive. Then the cd wouldn't eject. Tried burning a cd and same problem. Came defective right out of the box.

Update: I WAS SOLD A FAKE FROM MIRASAN. Amazon has this listed as Apple and I paid the full price that Apple sells for, but was shipped a counterfeit. In the pictures the counterfeit is on the left. The font and picture on the box is different and the black bottom of the super drive is much more matte and well made than the one that I was sent. And lastly I should have known it was a counterfeit since the manual is in Chinese!!
Great way to hide a disc, assuming you never want to find it again!

This horrendous machine is a nightmare. I had previously attempted to use a VersionTech copy, looks exactly the same but missing the Apple branding on the bottom. The VersionTech worked better than this, but still didn't do it's job.

For this one, I inserted a blank DVD and it would immediately spit it out. Suck it in, spin it for a hot second, spit it out. Rinse Lather Repeat.
The VersionTech did the same, but would actually read CDs (albeit it wouldn't recognize them until a few minutes of beating the thing like a redheaded stepchild--PS it's okay, I can say that because I'm a redheaded stepchild). Anyways, thought maybe the lens had dust on it or something, despite being brand new, so I popped a lens cleaning disk in there (which had worked in the VersionTech, although it didn't fix the problem). Sucked in the cleaning disc, spun it around, made some sounds, slowed down....but never read it. Nothing will pop up on my desktop or in finder....finder DOES show a Remote Disc (the unit) connected but does not read any disc on the unit. Which means I can't eject. I've tried every way of force ejecting, including terminal commands and resets, and nothing works. My disc is eternally stuck, unless I tear the damned machine apart at which point I can't return it. There is NO physical way to eject, only commands....and you can't command something that your computer doesn't know exists.

So thanks Apple (or whoever made this fake piece of crap, if it isn't Apple)....you not only wasted my time, but stole my disc too.
