Great Option for Cord-Cutters
Zap Rowsdower✓ Verified PurchaseMay 3, 2017
Great so far. Easy to set up and has worked well. I was a bit nervous about the "certified refurbished" designation, as some reviews mention a few issues, but I did not have any of those problems (Spring 2017). I pay only local taxes (around 4 bucks on Long Island). Don't be dissuaded by those who say that VOIP has an inferior sound. In many areas, telecoms have transitioned landlines to VOIP, even if you are not aware (this is why you may have to input area codes when you didn't have to in the past). Truthfully, the only reason that we kept traditional phone service is to speak to older relatives who still use landlines so it was nice to have a cost-effective option available.

Some advice: If you do not plan to use the Premium Service that comes standard for the first month you must "OPT OUT" before the trial expires or you will have the Premium plan subscription charged to your account.

Also, if you plan to port your existing land line number to the OOMA be sure to do this before cancelling service, or before you place any order through your telecom for service changes. Learned that one the hard way.

Overall, a fine product that pays for itself in short order. I am saving around 28 dollars a month.

Warranty is canceled when you discontinue the service

I only used this unit for 3 months, as I no longer needed the additional line. The sound quality was ok; what I found annoying was the latency in the call causing us to talk over each other. It occasionally had an echo, but not often enough that I'd mark it down another point for that. I will say that to end the service is rather painful - they keep trying to sell you on why you should keep the service. When you finally fight through all of their sales pitch, they then say that canceling the service will also cancel the warranty on the device - that seems a bit shady to me, if it's sold with a 1 year warranty, it shouldn't be 1 year unless you stop buying the service. If I were to want to use it again in a few months, the warranty would be gone. I did have better call quality on this than on a Straight Talk Home Phone, but then again, that's over a cell tower, so it's highly dependent on signal strength. Neither of them are as clear as a landline (and the landline allows simultaneous talking on both sides).

Don't get OOMA for the Bluetooth features!
milojah✓ Verified PurchaseMarch 13, 2017
If you are buying this to use a bluetooth headset to make outgoing calls, you should understand that you will not be able to enter touch tones to your call. So, you can't use OOMA+BT to join a teleconference. The OOMA treats the BT headset like an extension, but transferring between extensions is only supported on the OOMA-branded devices. To send a call to a BT headset, you must have the HD2 handset. To send a call from a BT headset, you must have the OOMA BT Headset.

These limitations are not explained in any of the marketing docs, nor the user guide, nor the BT guide, and the front-line support teams do not know about it, either. I've spent close to 4 hours on email, text and phone support being lied to, hung up on, or just having my time wasted. Finally, I was able to escalate to level-3 support who informed me that I needed to buy the HD2 handset to be able to use the bluetooth.

The actual phone service works OK, but you will need to learn to accept the really annoying musical dialtone. However, the documentation and support are EXTREMELY lacking.

If you were looking to OOMA for their BT headset support, go somewhere else, it is not a usable product.
