Good solid leather, with a pocket on either side for checkbook and register, plus a leather flap for NCR checks. Couldn't ask for better quality. The aesthetics are superb, deep, three-dimensional artwork. You can always tell an Oberon piece by its particular aesthetics. To be fair, I have been buying Oberon work for at least 30 years at the SoCal Renaissance Faire -- checkbooks, pouches, wallets, notebooks and more, so knew exactly what I was buying when I suddenly needed a check book cover. (I mean really, who writes checks any more? But suddenly I needed to, and went here immediately to replace the plastic thing from the bank.) This cover is not cheap -- the free one works -- but it will last for ever. And I consider it an excellent value, given the quality and the art. I still have 30 year old Oberon pieces in use daily. Oh -- check out the matching cell phone covers, btw. (Yes, I have that too.)

This leather checkbook is of high quality and workmanship. You get that immediately by the smell of the leather, which reminded me of some of the best leather craft tanner shops. My only knock is that it is very stiff and not supple. It will need to be "broken-in" over time to get that relaxed softness of the leather. It was a little difficult inserting my checks and check register into the slots. The flap to separate checks (for 2 part carbon checks) is also a bit taut, but I believe will soften over time and use. A superb product that will last a long time. However, banks my do away with paper checks altogether in a few years.

I have used Oberon checkbook covers for twenty years, they are gorgeous and indestructible. I still get compliments regularly. When I lost my beloved 20 year old checkbook last week, I ordered a replacement, which was very nice indeed. The last checkbook cover you will ever need to buy, unless you lose it!

This checkbook cover is beautifully crafted and I am looking forward to many years of use. If I could, I would deduct one-half of a star for a very minor complaint: the pockets are tight, such that I had considerable difficulty inserting the checks and register. Comparing this cover with other leather covers shows that the stitching on the Oberon is about twice the distance from the edges. This may be because the leather used by Oberon is at least twice as thick as the older covers. Regardless, as stated, I am keeping this cover for hopefully many years.

I'd say I'd buy it again, but I know I what have a reason to buy another check book cover again.
