Beautiful, but ONLY for wood!

High quality, really beautiful caps. They are exactly what I'm looking for. I did read they are only fitted to wood posts. I have PVC/vinyl posts. And the online picture looks like they are fixed to PVC/vinyl posts! Being the impatient, I want what I want and want it now, wishful thinker, I searched the reviews and didn't see anything about various fittings. So I ordered them without asking about it. And guess what? Yeah, they don't fit!!! So for the impatient buyer who falls in love with these and as feedback to the seller, maybe showing them affixed to a raw wood post would spell it out for us! It's a five star product I wish I could use.

Looks good, however, be careful of the word "nominal". The opening is actually 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches and does not fit on a post top of the same measurements.

We had earlier versions of these post lights ( to mark the two staircases off of our deck ) that lasted 3-4 years before the white plastic body
( probably polystyrene ) started to degrade and splinter and flake off surface chunks. The lighting circuit was still working pretty well
(replaced the original batteries after 2 years) despite the solar cell lens becoming foggy. So we decided to replace them with these
"copper coated" versions. The copper is plated onto the plastic like the flash chrome bumpers on a plastic car model kit ( actually the first
step in the chrome plating is a layer of copper, and then the chrome is plated to the copper ) and then a clear coat is put on top.
It looks as good as it does in the photos ( which is great ) so even if it only lasts the same amount of time as the plain white plastic ones it's
still an excellent buy for a set of four.

I have seven (7) of these lights installed on posts for the front walk-up teak/composite deck front entrance to the house. They give off a medium bright light. If the light is installed to close to an outside light it will not turn on. There is a caution in the instructions to dismount the light if temperature falls below zero degrees for an extended period. I left them on last winter in Colorado, Elevation 6500 ft, with Temps in teens and below zero for prolong periods. No problems with them working. I would advise using SS screws or galvanized ones as the black ones "rust". Also be advised to dry install with the top on as depending on the angle of you stair hand rail and height of the support post, the light cover may not clear the hand rail. Metal lights are the way to go...
Lastly, the reason I gave 4-stars is for the rusty screws (had to sand and repaint light, get ss screws, re-install) and the battery life. I had to replace two batteries after only 4 months of service.
