Amazing topcoat when applied correctly!

I am obsessed with this topcoat! It leaves such a smooth matte finish that I love. That being said, my first couple of times using it were disastrous. I used a foam brush like they recommend and it left many bubbles that dried white. Now, I just always use a synthetic paint brush and do thin clear layers. If you see any white spots when applying it, it will dry white so make sure your layers are thin and appear clear from the get go. If you do that, then it is amazing!
Wonderful product!

This flat finish is absolutely amazing. I repurpose furniture and this is the best product I've ever used. I wanted to keep the chalky finish of a cabinet I'm working on. I started off with General Finishes milk paint (which is a fabulous paint btw), and then I searched far and wide for a top coat that would keep the chalky look of the paint. I went back to general finishes and found this flat out flat. It didn't change the color of the paint and it still looks chalky and flat. My cabinet is going to be used a lot, so I added three top coats. It's beautiful and velvety smooth! My cabinet is a 6 foot kitchen hutch. Like I said I used 3 coats and I still have 1/3 of the top coat left in the can. I attached a before and after picture
Oh my gosh I love this product

Oh my gosh I love this product! I used this over a charcoal chalk pain on my daughter's bathroom vanity. The finish is just gorgeous!
Not for sealing chalk type paints

This was supposed to be General Finishes answer to seal wood and painted wood surfaces but it doesn't work on most projects. It pulls tannins out of the wood, even over painted surfaces and will leave a blotchy finish, especially with light colored paints. You run the risk of pulling browns and reds through the paint which may not be as noticeable over pink, red and brown paints.
I painted a dresser with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in a white, three coats, and decided to skip all the waxing and use Flat Out Flat. Fortunately I was only on the third drawer, wiping on the first coat when I looked at the dried first drawer to see pinkish brown blotches everywhere.
I had to repaint the drawers, re-sand and go with another product. ALL General Finishes products will do this unless you use another product to seal it first then really give it time to cure before going with GF. Just not worth the price and the hassle.
Saved our table!

Recently made a dining room table out of salvaged barn wood. On the advice of a family member, we first used a varnish from Sherwin Williams to seal the table. Since they no longer make a flat, we used the satin. BIG mistake! The "satin" was super glossy and not at all what we wanted. I was devastated and thought we would have to strip the table and start over. I researched and found this General Finishes Flat Out Flat and decided we had nothing to lose.
The finish was EXACTLY what we wanted! We lightly sanded the previous varnish and applied this over the top. It made the finish matte and made the color so much richer. We also used this directly on the matching barn wood bench and it looks like we didn't add any finish. It make the barn wood look like barn wood again.
