I got a 10" 3/8 gong target for me and my friends to shoot as a cheap intro to steel to test the waters and now I really regret not getting into steel targets sooner. We put about 1300 rounds of 9mm into it the first day and there was no noticeable wear from that. We did try about 5 rounds of 55grain 556 from about 20 yards (which the target isn't rated for at that distance) just as a test and it did ok, but did get small divots from those.

Id recommend 1/2" thick target for rifle especially if you are gonna be shooting closer than the recommended 100 yards with rifles for better target longevity. We wanted targets to use for drills/training so we will be much closer than recommended, your mileage may vary depending on distance and caliber. For the price I'm extremely happy and we all plan on buying more of these, but from now on we will get 1/2" instead.

I used this shooting a 308 and it did not pit or dent, shot at 100 yards out. the middle bulls eye opens as it should and it comes with the chains and bolts. Only thing that is different is the bulls eye in the picture shows red with the black lines but that is not included. I gave it five stars because the product is durable and holds up to a good blast with 165 grain hollow point 308.

Awesome target. Very heavy too supported with heavy chain & bolts to attach it to a frame for hanging. I added it to my gun range today. Will be using a New Ruger Single Ten that I purchased yesterday. Possibly my Sig Sauer 45 as well. The target size is very generous and I painted the center circle red as well. Absolutely awesome addition to my range.

I've been using this target heavily since purchased nearly a year ago. I've thrown everything at it from several thousand rounds of 9mm and .40 to over a thousand rounds of 5.56 and a few hundred rounds of .30-06. The target holds up against it all. When shot with the 5.56 or .30-06 at closer ranges there will be tiny pits maybe a quarter of a millimeter deep and a milimeter in diameter, but being 3/8 in thick you would literally have to hit the EXACT same spot at close range thousands of times to make it through. And if you are shooting from the recommended distances, there is no damage to the steel at all. If you paint your target after each shooting session, you can't see any damage at all. The only negative I found with this target is that when hitting the center gong the other day with my .30-06, one of the two carriage bolts holding the gong to the silhouette managed to shear in half. I contacted the company to let them know and in less than 24 hours they told me a complete new bolt assembly would be on its way to me shortly. They explained that they use grade 5 bolts because of their durability and that grade 8 are stronger, but may shatter if impacted by a bullet. They told me they wish someone would make AR500 bolts, however they are too hard to form and would be impractical.

My final thoughts are that this target easily deserves 5 stars even with a bolt shearing (mind you this target was stuck by approximately 5,000 bullets before that happened).

The company also deserves 5 stars for their exceptional response time, quality product, and valuing their customer above all else.

I've only put about 400 rounds on this target so far, but this is an extremely well made target and feels like it will last a very long time. The chains are substantial and the fact that they came with the target was great, that they were pre-installed was exceptional.

The inside gong is awesome, simple, and perfect. The difference in sound makes hitting that gong addicting.

For the price I have found no better target out there.
