This balaclava has a fairly strong chemical smell, but it has faded some over time. Also, it is quite tight on me, but I use a helmet size 4XL. Be prepared to have marks from the seams on your forehead for 10 minutes after taking it off.
It does make a really big difference when shoveling snow in minus 25 degrees and windy weather. However, I wish there was some mesh in front of the mouth part to let your breath escape, rather than letting it build up and become all soggy and cold.

I am an avg sized woman and this is wayyy too tight . The other problem is breathing through it. There is no room in the nose area and my nose is squished. My breathe doesn't flow through the material easily and it is uncomfortable. If you are petite this would be fine. Also look out if you suffer from claustrophobia, no joke intended. The neck area doesn't have enough give and take so it feels,slightly, like choking. Not a good feeling. The only good thing I can see is the material on the forehead area keeps all your hair in. Did I mention that it fogs glasses ? Yes it does! Even with the nose area leaving my nose exposed, my glasses still fogged up! This is definitely only a winter product. I am sorry to say because there are too many bad features, I give it a thumbs down, in my opinion, and do not recommend. Honestly, I am very confused by all the great reviews. I hope people read this one and take heed, to not waste their money !!

Plenty warm enough for the SF bay Area winters. I rode my bike last weekend when we reached a new low for the season: 27F. My head was warm, I wish I had my wind pants. I replaced a balaclava which was quite a bit lighter which was better for the shoulder seasons. I would call this a medium weight.

I bought the white version for summer yard work for both shelter (from the sun) and filtering (the air). After a couple times wearing it, I found it accomplished both and also found it to be of exceptional quality. Especially nice was its longer length for complete neck protection. It also seemed to keep me cooler than what I normally wear did. The problem is that because I have a larger nose and the balaclava's tight fit, my nose felt irritated sometimes so had to adjust the fit. After a while, it felt like my nose was being punched. I contacted GearTOP about this concern. They were cordial and promptly fulfilled their promised Lifetime Satisfaction Guarantee. What more could one ask for? I'm hoping that the balaclava will stretch enough eventually to form a semi-custom fit.

Too small. The pic makes it seem like ot comes down past the neck front and back. Not really. Unless your a kid. Barely fits my head. And very tight on the face. Ill give it to a kid i guess. Not worth the trouble to return. Dont buy for an adult.
