The Yankee Candle smell doesn't last during burning. You only smell the pine scent while it's still wrapped. Otherwise good.

I purchased a box of these around and for Christmas last year and burned 3 of them, my memory was that they burned well when placed at the back of the fireplace, with a lot of light and dramatic flame for about 2 to 2.5 hours and also slowly at first gave off a pleasant but not particularly strong forest smell. When I received these for review my impression was not strong enough to write a review without additional testing, which found them very consistent with my previous experience. The smell was a little stronger than I remembered but I was paying more attention, and I was impressed with its solidly convincing balsam fir smell. The smell is quite well done. It is more like that of the fresh fir cuttings though a little less concentrated, than it was like the smell of actual balsam wood burning, and it was convincing enough that I was not thinking of cheap balsam incense or those car air fresheners. In short it smelled nothing like the vicinity of a Yankee Candle store. The scent lingered and remained pleasant for a fair portion of the night as well.

Since the time I received these logs for review, it has been a little too hot to burn them. But because I try to make a good faith effort, I turned the air conditioner way down and tried my hardest to drive atmospheric CO2 above .4ppt and promote Polar Bear-Grizzly miscegenation. I have studied enough geochemistry to know that it probably made no difference in the long run, but when I sat down to write this my ocd made me try and figure it out. I discovered that at that time of night in that locale the power company was giving away electricity free since they had to keep the nuclear power plant online overnight anyway and they were limited by line capacity and storage space from selling it out of the area, Thus researching on the websites of Pine Mountain, the EPA, and Environment Canada I discovered that my chief emissions were only the emissions from the sweet balsam scented sustainable sawdust and plant wax in the log itself. These are mostly soot other than a little soot which in that area is not an issue and the atmospheric carbon output of a log is about 100g.

Artificial fire logs are much cleaner burning both in particulate and carbon than any actual wood because they are mostly wax anyway and among them Pine Mountain is one of the cleanest burners in the industry. I look forward to loading another log up in about 6 months.

I live in Chicago and winters can be brutal. Fire logs are always a welcome addition and I use them frequently in my fireplace. With long winter season, I often stop by and purchase logs to make my living room cozy and warm. When I saw this special log offer where fire log is scented, I decided to try it. I like scents in home. What woman does not? There are always scented soaps for regular use and fancy beautiful scented guest soaps. There are fragrance sticks I use in the bathroom and scented candles are a must. Until this moment I never used a scented fire log to start a fire in my fireplace. But there is always a first time for everything.

This fire log has very strong scent. Even when it arrived in the mail, I could smell the pine scent from the packaging. This was nice because one can leave log by the fireplace and still experience beautiful scent. I decided to use it in a fireplace one spring morning. I was frustrated that it was officially spring and yet the weather was cold and my home still required heat. I started the fireplace and it was time to use the fire log. I absolutely enjoyed the scent that came out of log once it caught fire. It was sublime. For a moment I felt as if I was in a log cabin in the woods and the scent was coming from the trees outside. I found scent to be calming and soothing.

I wanted to really love this because I really like the ease and convenience of these types of firelogs. They are easy to light, burn fast and clean, and the clean-up is no problem. I use them in my firepit when I want a small quick fire for ambiance. If I want a bigger fire, I put one of these in and then add some regular logs as it burns. Maybe a little pricey, but it's a very easy and effective fire starter.

One of my favorite childhood memories was the smell of the Christmas tree in our home. Even going to the tree lot the pine smell was everywhere, and it always brought back fond memories and put me in the Christmas mood. So, there is no way a Christmas tree scented firelog could go wrong. I'm a fan of Yankee Candle too, but this pine-scented wrapper missed the mark a bit. I wasn't crazy about the smell, and it didn't seem to add much to the log. Still a log is a log and it burned fine.

Pleasantly scented, and enjoyable.
