an excellent instrument
Keith Kusbit•April 4, 2018
This horn has a beautiful rich deep mellow sound. In fact if you Google mellophone ratings you'll find a review thats rates a handful of the best mellophones and this Moz in nickel comes in as number two just behind the Yamaha for its rich mellow sound. I love it and I play it with both the french horn mouthpiece and the regular mouthpiece. The french horn mouthpiece produces a much quieter sound.

It didnt sound good. It felt like something was stuck inside. It sounded like a s scratchy sound.

Great horn! I needed a mellophone for an alumni band I was apart of and this fit the bill. It is a bit sharp in the lower register (D and lower), however I don't play those often and it's nothing an embochure adjustment won't fix. I did order the brass horn (from Moz) first and had the same problem, so I returned it and purchased this one. This one has the same issue, but I can live with it, so decided to keep it. It's a beautiful horn and I got lot some of compliments on my tone with this instrument and it sounds as good as the $2500 horn I had borrowed from the school. Nearly everyone said they were surprised I hadn't played in 14 years! No issues with sticky valves either. They were a bit stiff, but glide smoothly with some Al Cass. Glad I made this purchase!

Sound is very pleasing and easy to play. I am very happy with my new horn.
The mellophone has a great tone. However

The mellophone has a great tone. However, the valves will stick or come back up very slowly, even after applying some valve oil and making sure the valves were not over oiled. It also comes with a French horn mouth piece and adapter and white practice gloves which were pretty cool. The case is sturdy and comes with a pair of straps to carry it on your back.
