Wonderful nutcracker for children!

We purchased several of these nutcrackers as Christmas gifts as well as kept one for our home. It's great for young children since it is so simple to operate and doesn't require much, if any, hand strength. It does take some time to open and close the screw top, so don't expect to get through a big pile of nuts in one sitting. I knocked off a star because a couple of the ones we ordered had minor woodworking defects, but overall they are good quality for the price.

I rarely take the time to write reviews, but this little jig made me so happy I just had to. Received it in the mail in the blink of an eye with some doubt on how well it would work compared to a metal one. Opened it up and popped a walnut in..cracked with almost no effort at all. I love it. It's functional and it's cute and it's fun to use. I'm thinking about opening up a nutcracking company just so I can order more. Also...it's cheaper than the metal ones. I'm frugal. And when I saw this I thought...I love that but it might not work and it's probably thirty something..wait what?! Buy it. You will not regret it.

Pretty but worthless for cracking nuts. It took forever to screw and after the nut was cracked the shell as well as the nut ended up inside the hole and had to be manually separated after taking the time to unscrew the cracker. At times, it just ended up smashing the nut together (shell and all) so the whole thing was just thrown away in frustration. This thing isn't functional at all. Get it if you don't actually expect anyone to eat the nuts you put out.
Do not waste your money!

Opens large nuts, like walnuts, with more certainty and less mess

Handily opens walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds and brazil nuts with a lot less mess (broken shells littering the tabletop or floor). Cracking the nut shell requires a wrist twisting motion akin to opening a small jar. After cracking the nut shell, another slight twist will break open the shell. This design is a big improvement vs my old nutcracker (two handles with a hinge at one end) especially for large shells, like walnuts. It can be displayed on the shelf when not in use. Oil from the nut is starting to change the wood color inside the chamber below the screw -- over time I hope this will enhance the hardwood appearance.
