Lid chewed through by animal, not covered by warranty.

The can worked great for 6 months until something (raccoon, squirrel, ???) chewed a hole in the lid. Had a similar problem with thinner plastic but this is supposed to be so sturdy I didn't expect a problem. Submitted a warranty claim to the company but this is apparently not covered by their warranty. Does not state that anywhere on their warranty, but then again the warranty is vague and covers "damage" without explaining what this is. No exclusion for animals. They offered I can replace the lid for $50, but at that price I could almost buy a new can elsewhere. Very disappointed. 10 year warranty unless it's damaged, then your damage isn't covered. Didn't even survive six months in the "wilds" of northern NJ.
Heavy-duty, but has its drawbacks

This is a very rugged trash can, which is about it's only redeeming aspect. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of room on the inside because of the construction (you can see the cutout in the picture, it really does take up a lot of room). Also, there is no catch on the lid, so it blows open very easily. We have to keep a rock on the top so it does not open and let the critters in.
Sturdy, easy to wheel, and best of all, the lid doesn't come off.

This Toter is very large, very sturdy, very easy to wheel.

We have smaller Rubbermaid trash cans. They don't wheel very well. They tip. The lids can be difficult to close and lock, especially in winter weather. Our trash collectors take the lids off and throw them on the ground. They can't do that with the Toter. The lid doesn't leak, it can't fall off, it can't blow away. We've had it for a few weeks, and I have no complaints at all. It's the best trash can we've ever had.
Sturdy - exactly what I needed

I only just bought this brand because it seemed to be very sturdy and of good quality. It's not flimsy or brittle (harsh Michigan winters) which is why I purchases this one over the others that are readily available in my local hardware stores. Lookingg inside the bin, it looks so small but it's definitely 32 gallons. ..to be fair, would have been a big upgrade from our beat up, aluminium cans from a couple decades ago. The one thing I don't love about it is that the handle for pulling/rolling it around seems shorter than I was expecting. I'm not tall (5'7) but my initial impression was that the handle could use an extension of sorts for more comfortable toting around - especially if you're tall.
Built to last! Toters are TOPS!!

Forget the cheapo cans! Buy one that will last (&.last & last!) like these Toters. I love them and think thy are the best built cans for the money --hands down. I swear by the heavy duty greenstone ones. I have several in the larger sizes and just bought this smaller size for my mom. It's perfect for her-- heavy enough to stay put during a wind storm, but light enough to wheel when full. Also our waste haulers' trucks can empty them with the auto lift. Though we're not required to have this style of can, it sure is an improvement over what we had.
