Easy, affordable way to add accent lighting
Alex Q✓ Verified Purchase•March 8, 2016
We're using 6 of these to light up our wet bar; the warm white is fantastic for general display, and the RGB is nice for a flashier look. The setup is simple. We drilled holes into the liquor cabinet tops and threaded the puck's wires through the hole, then screwed the mount to the top before seating the puck itself into the mount. We didn't go with a recessed look right away; maybe when I get a hole saw or Forstner bit in that size we'll reevaluate.
PROS:
Easy to connect together
Warm white is infinitely better than the RGB white we had before
Fairly long cords between wall wart, switch, and IR receiver
Lighting cover diffuses lighting pretty well
CONS:
Torchstar doesn't sell add-on packs, so if you want six of these bad boys (max you can daisy-chain off one power supply) you have to buy two sets. I'd prefer not having to pay the extra for the spare wall wart, remote and receiver.
The wires leading off each puck were not long enough for our needs. If you want these to be quite spaced out, you'll be disappointed.
Remote receiver is pretty large compared to several other RGB strips I've installed
Overall, at ~$10 per light, it's a fairly cheap and very easy way to dress up a display. You could get cheaper by wiring your own LEDs, but this is a no-brainer way to get everything in one package.

Very disappointed.

My original review was very positive, however after using them for six months, they have now stopped working. Very disappointed. They are a perfect size, and the light was perfect under my cabinets, and easy to install. However, I am not pleased with their durability. They should have lasted more than 6 months. I would not recommend, based on how long they lasted.
A lot of bang for the buck

My wife asked if I could put some lights into a large armoire with have so I looked around for something that was small yet 110v versus battery powered. I found these and ordered a set. I found them to be bright (two light levels on the on/off switch) and nicely made. Like some other reviewers, I did have to cut and then re-splice the wires so I would only need a small hole to be drilled run the wire out of the armoire to the outlet.. While don't know if makes a difference, the two wires did have different markings on them so I made sure the splice back correctly and the lights worked fine. They provide 2 screws for each to mount the holding ring and other it being a pain due to the position I had to place them hide them, they mount very nicely. Make sure the wires are fed through the little cut-outs on the side before you tighten them down. In my case I mounted on the inside of the top shelf area and then ran the wires out through the small hole in the back of the armoire. I found a really simple Command "Damage free Hanging Picture Hanging Clips with an adhesive backing. They were great and stuck to the wood well and the clip enabled me to take out the sag in the line. Highly recommend them if you are in a situation were wood was too thin to use a wire holder with nails. I may have to add another level of lights. Hopefully I can do that by just attaching them to extension of the last light. Don't know how many you can do but I'll ask that question and see if the manufacturer or someone has the answer. It also would be nice if extension cables were available.
recessed lighting in floating shelf
Amanda Forbes•September 13, 2015
Used these for recessed lighting in a floating shelf I made my daughter for above her bed. They're great. Bright and classy looking. Only thing I worry about is the durability of the on/off switch though the years. I'm hoping it'll last because I would hate to have to take the thing apart to replace the lights :-)
Great kit
KevinNJ•June 26, 2015
Great led kit! Tons of choices and selectivity. You can set it and forget it if you want to just tie them into an on/off switch and forego using the remote. One important tip. One user advised you need a 2 3/4" hole saw to flush mount and that is INCORRECT. you need something a little less like 2 5/8th or close. No bigger than 2 3/4 and no smaller than 2 1/2. I installed these into a wine rack and they are a great kit for accent lighting. Would definitely buy again.
