Caution. Look at the size dimensions, it's a small pocket stone. Not a good beginner's stone.

At 3"L x 1"W x 1/4"D this is a small size even for a "pocket stone". A Black Surgical Arkansas stone is the "last step", especially for a pocket stone size in the sharpening process. At this last step a BSA stone is more polishing the edge than sharpening. This will take more time than you think. Caution, this is not a beginner's stone, especially for outdoor field use with a very small stone like this. This stone is the last step in a 3 to 4 stone process when the blade is dull, not just bringing the edge back to "shaving sharp". I don't want someone to buy a stone like this use it twice be very unhappy with it and never use it again.
Beautiful Quality, Nice Pocket Stone

Great stone for that final "hone" or polish. I have a number of Arkansas stones, mostly larger ones but this is a handy little stone. Just recently I started using it to resharpen my Bic Shavers! It's small enough to fit within the "guides" of the Bic. Just wet with water the stone and Bic and then gently stroke the Bic in the opposite way you shave. Only takes maybe six or eight strokes. If you look through a magnifying glass you can see the angle that is needed, much the same angle you shave but in the opposite direction. Nice stone and I have always use water to sharpen my knifes and axes, works great, water is everywhere (spit), and there is no clean up.
best value for the money

This little stone is great. Highest quality and finest grit. This stone is better than the big double sided stones. Dont be fooled by its size. Great for everyday carry if you like to keep a sharp knife. I keep a little honing oil on mine and it keeps for a couple of days carrying it my pocket in its leather pouch before i have to add more.
A must-have for every serious blade!

I thought my blades were sharp before. I had a sharpmaker box and used that for all my blades that only went to a fine grit, and thought that it would be good enough. Well as it was I was having trouble with an axe I bought, where it could not process larger cords. It would bite into wood pretty good but I could not get it to split cleanly. On some occasions I got the axe stuck in the wood and needed to step on it to get enough leverage to dislodge it. I bought this bad boy, sharpened up my blades and put them away, thinking, man, these are pretty sharp. The next time I took my axe out, I swung as hard as I had before, and the wood literally FLEW apart! I was stunned. I lifted the axe again and again on each piece of wood, and every single time the two pieces would split apart cleanly. What a difference this little Arkansas stone made!
Like butta. Smooth

Perfect for what it does. Touch ups. This is a very fine stone. You're not gonna repair the big chunks you took out of your blade when you were showing off doing something stupid your knife is not intended to do.
But for a quick routine touch up. Perfect.
I usually switch back and forth between my Barrage and my mini Griptilian for daily carry. Generally after a few uses I will whip this little guy out and give it a few swipes. Right back to a razors edge.
It's a good size, comfortable in my hands. Fits perfectly in a pocket of my Dust man purse/pack.
High quality stone. Serviceable pouch.
