Dell’s warranty expired
Q✓ Verified Purchase•November 9, 2017
I bought this computer from Amazon as a loyal Amazon user. After less than one month usage, the product had a hardware issue. So I contacted Dell technical support and was informed that the warranty on the product was already expired even though I purchased less than a month ago from Amazon. Therefore, they could not provide the needed support and recommend to return the product to Amazon. Dell provides one-year warranty but to only direct purchases. I am just glad that the issue was prior to my return expiry date and Amazon has a great return service. Please be aware of the actual warranty coverage by the manufacture
Great Product, Stellar Design

Excellent looks, screen is incredibly tight and refined. If you edit photos, type a lot, read a lot, or browse a lot, this QHD screen is epic. EPIC! The downside. It's super slick and glossy, BUT you do get really tough Gorilla Glass in exchange as well. More up than down for me. Worth the added price.
So far I have had to use quite a few non-layman utilities to properly detect certain hardware, like the SSD...and the wireless card...yeah. So I think most people would have sent this back immediately, since it wouldn't boot without: adjusting BIOS, doing some research, detecting and then deactivating and reactivating the wireless card, and doing updates for 3 hours. After all that I have an operating machine. It's lightning fast, and badass looking with that screen. I would say this is the best PC Laptop I have ever had. If you can deal with the return process or have the technical knowledge to fix it.

Problems within the first couple months

I bought this unit in November 2015. Within the first 1-2 months, the WiFi adapter would turn off, which you could fix only by restarting the system. Then, the unit would turn on, even with when the laptop was closed, and drain the battery. Now (1 day after the warranty expired) the laptop fails to turn on. Dell customer service was of no help. I've talked to customer representative Lakshay (Rep. ID 200018) for over an hour. The end result was that they want to charge me $250 to fix the laptop, even though the problem started occurring within the warranty period.
I've spent ~$1300 for this unit and it turned out to be unreliable. I would expect Dell to either fix the laptop for no charge or send a replacement unit.

Horrible Dell warranty and customer service

I did not buy the laptop at Amazon, but I just want to share my experience with this laptop and Dell customer service. We bought the Dell XPS 13 about six months ago and the LCD screen started to show dead horizontal lines which quickly evolved to vertical lines (see pictures attached). We called Dell Customer Support and sent them pictures. After one hour they agreed that the laptop had to be sent for repair. Then the nightmare started with Dell being incapable of sending us a single post office label in 3 different e-mails. After more than a week they sent a box with the label. Once the laptop was sent in, Dell informed that the screen damage was customer induced and wants to charge $410 Canadian Dollars (a third of the cost of the laptop). This is just ridiculous. The laptop has no nicks, no dents, not even scratches. It looks completely new externally and all I can see is Dell not wanting to honor their warranty of a low quality screen or low quality manufacturing process. Dell Customer Support has no shame about lying. NEVER BUY DELL!
so good. I was very hesitant to get this one

So far, so good. I was very hesitant to get this one, all the quality issues with it did concern me. I had the usual updates to do, but I have not had any problems so far. Great little PC
Update 2/14/17 Marked down from a 5 to a 3, PC still runs great, even better after a new bios update. Problem is that I just got a notice that the warranty period was set to expire. After notifying Dell that I had just purchased this laptop last Aug, they said that their warranty started as soon as the retailer purchased the laptop(in this case, 2015). So, instead of a full year warranty, I get 7 months. I can extend the warranty of course, for just $99. I have been purchasing laptops/PC's for over 20 years and this is the first time the manufacturer used the retail purchase as the start of the warranty period.
