but I think I let the milk cool too much
Joy S.✓ Verified Purchase•September 2, 2017
The first batch was runny, but I think I let the milk cool too much. So I reheated the milk and repeated the process with the easy-to-follow instructions and it was much firmer. I have successfully used the yogurt from this as a starter twice more, getting about a quart of yogurt from two quarts of milk. I also ordered a Greek yogurt strainer, which really helps make a firmer yogurt. I used the whey both for marinating chicken and with smoothies. The yogurt tastes lighter than the Stonyfield organic, which I have also used to culture yogurt. My grandchildren like both. I used raw milk from a local dairy, Swiss cows and made it in my Instant pot.
Did not work and they only give you two packets. Too expensive and a waste of good ingredients.

Did not work and they only give you two packets. (And the packets were not expired.) Was able to make yogurt 1 week later and then again the following week after using a regular probiotic capsule from a bottle and some milk kefir. This starter was a dissapointment, it never became even slightly solid. I had to throw it all away, a real waste. I would strongly advise trying another brand
Bulgarian Yogurt Starter - not so tangy/tart
Janet Wesner✓ Verified Purchase•August 11, 2017
This turned into yogurt after a bit more straining through a clean kitchen towel over night. The final yogurt is not as tart as US store yogurt. Used two quarts of whole milk. The final product tastes a bit like cottage cheese than yogurt. Tastes good with fresh fruit, spoonful of jam and a little honey. Yogurt is great to use in cooking to replace sour cream. Used this to make some really good sour cream pound cake without sour cream. It is very good.
The second batch of this turned out really good and tastes like yogurt but not as tangy. Looking forward to eating this batch.

Watery, unpleadant after taste

I used this product about a week after delivery, followed the recipe using a yogurt maker (7 jars) for 12hrs. Half the jars came out with watery looking cream (like evaporated milk texture) also the yogurts have this chemicals type of after taste. Maybe I had a bad batch, it really didn't taste like yogurt at all. I kept a small sample to reuse hopping the taste will fade away.
Not worth the bother.

I've been making yogurt for quite a while and I bought this to test a different variety. The 1st batch didn't thicken. At over $6 per pack it's extremely expensive, which would have been okay (if it worked) as I wanted to test a different variety. I'll stick with the old standby. This was a waste of time and money. I ended up turning the milk into cheese.
