I've ordered the 2oz version of these chips a few times before and was happy to see they had a 1oz version (yay portion control), but when I opened the first bag, a horrible burnt oil/rubber tire smell hit me in the face. I opened a few more and same thing.

I got a refund from Amazon but felt I had to call Deep River to let them know that they were sending out bad chips. I spoke to a lovely customer service rep (I forgot her name, sorry!), who apologized and explained what probably happened. Because of improper storing or transportation, the chips re-cooked in their bags from the heat, which caused them to go rancid. She told me that they instruct Amazon on how to store their chips but they couldn't control what happened to their products once they left the Deep River warehouse. She offered to send me a replacement (even though I told her I'd already gotten a full refund from Amazon!). She said they'd ship directly from their warehouse and she could guarantee they wouldn't be rancid. I received them a couple days ago and I'm happy to report that they are indeed just as awesome as they always have been, which is a huge relief because these are my favorite chips of all time.

Amazon, please store these chips properly and instruct your delivery services not to leave them in hot trucks. I have to admit, I'm a little wary of ordering from Amazon during the hotter months and might stock up in the winter. I wish we could order directly from their website but they don't seem to support that as of this writing. They do list another site to order from and I might give that a try (I don't think I can list urls in reviews--just go to the Deep River website and click on the "Find Us" link).

Tl;dr, they haven't changed the formula and they haven't been sending out rancid chips. If you get a bad batch, get a refund from Amazon and try again.

Misleading "olive oil" in package /food title. I am intolerant of most oils, especially sunflower oil., the 2nd ingredient after potatoes in these chips. Olive oil is the 2nd LAST ingredient of 10 ingredients listed. My fault for forgetting to check the ingredient list, but the mfg is VERY much misleading in claiming "olive oil" in name compared to the predominant sunflower oil use.

These are the most AWESOME chips that you will ever enjoy!! A taste sensation exploding with a burst of Horseradish overlapped by deep Aged Cheddar soothing to the senses; bringing the perfect balance to mind, body, and soul. Best chips ever! So much flavor and I love the texture of these chips. I always get excited whenever I am at a deli and see Deep River. Only negative would be that buying a pack of 12 means you will probably finish them quicker (unless you got some discipline lol). Please offer more flavors as well :D

Loved the flavor and portion size. Not at all oily or messy; don't muck up your keyboard or mouse. Arrived with fewer broken chips than similar chips stocked on grocery shelves.

For what it's worth, I'm back to order more.
