If what you need is a very basic deterrent to tampering or access, this is a great solution. The cable is plenty long to hold any number of boxes or bags shut, but it's not going to keep out a determined thief -- or the TSA apparently.
But if you have a box you want to lock and keep children out of, it's fine for that, or if you just want to keep a casual thief or pickpocket out of a suitcase, it's also fine for that. Oh, and it's a little tricky to set the combo (read the instructions carefully), and the dials don't spin super easily -- but i have big clumsy hands and I am able to work them.

Great easy combination locks. Even after you enter the correct combination, you have to press a button to release the cable. I like that. I read at least two reviews saying that the combination can be changed while the lock is closed, but I found that to be true only when the numbers are already set to the prior code. For ex: if your code is 343 and the lock is set to 343, the combination can be changed whether the lock is open or closed. If the code is 343, and the lock is set to, say, 459, you can't change the code to a new one while the lock is closed.

When I got these, I loved them. The cable is long enough to be easy to work with, sturdy enough for travel, and thin enough to fit through lockers. They're easy to handle, and easy to set the combination. Then I took them on travel, and in the low light of a hotel room I had trouble reading the numbers. Imagine me trying to hold my phone so the light would shine on the numbers while spinning the dials. I was hoping it was a one off. But I was in 7 hotels in 2 weeks and I had the problem about half the time. In sufficient light, they're great. In low light, the numbers are really hard to read.

I love this little lock. Used it on my backpack while travelling for disaster relief. Its easy to reset the code, easy to open and shut (when you enter the code) and is a perfect little deterrent. It is small and feels light, so if someone was really hellbent on getting into your stuff I think they still may be able to, but for the average thief/nosy roommate, it works great

These were bought to be used with a Pelican 1510 case. However the cables are too long and leave too much "wiggle" room. (When locked the cable loop is about 2.5-3in.)
I'm still going to use them with other cases I have that need good locks so they won't go to waste!
