They are pointed enough to go into the ground easily, but not so sharp as to be dangerous. The poles are colorful enough to be visible over a football field away.

Excellent product, good quality and strong enough to stay in place without breaking even after snow plows piled a bunch of snow against them.
I used these to mark the driveway so snow plows will not go beyond the asphalt into the grass. They are long enough that are clearly visible standing up higher than the pile of snow.
Piece of advice (this is nothing wrong with the product). Wear good working/garden gloves when handling them. Very tiny fiber glass pieces can get in your skin when you try to push down the sticks into the ground, they go easy since they have a pointy end but the small friction between bare hands and the stick is enough to get small fibers in your hands (really annoying but preventable by using proper glove protection).
