I wanted to this microtome for botanical work at home and figured that it might take a little practice before I could get a truly thin slice, but I was delighted to discover that it wasn't as difficult as I'd anticipated. For small specimens (e.g., lichen apothecia), you will want to mount the tissue in wax (again, not difficult to do, although you have to pay attention to orientation).
